Different type of baby shower....?!

Question: Okay so we're throwing a small (20 people or less) suprise baby shower for a friend of my mom's whose DAUGHTER is pregnant (she lives out of town tho, so this shower is for the grandma) and like I said, it's a suprise, she thinks we're having a happy hour party on a Friday afternoon after work, so that being said, anyone have any good food ideas (appetizers, etc)?? Do you think we should play games?? The people who are invited (co-workers, mostly) all know its a suprise baby shower, and they're all co-workers and friends. Do you think it's tacky to ask the guests to bring their gifts for the baby in gift bags, instead of wrapping paper?? (That way, grandma can peek and see what her daughter/grandaughter got, without having to re-wrap, or send un-wrapped gifts to her daughter.) Also, any ideas on theme?? It's a girl!!

And elaborate food recipes are okay, I like to cook and be creative.

It is ok to ask for gift bags they are just as much as wrapping paper. (If you are like me, I save mine for future use lol saves money). instead of guest having gifts in bags make a large paper bassinette or use a clothing basket(wicker works good and she can use for the baby too) and ask they bring small gift type things to put in there. pacifiers anything small and able to be put in there. it is all the small things that you don't realize you need for baby. It is done all the time here.

sure playing games are great too. here is a link

check this out forother ideas as well.

make cup cakes they have nice picks at acmore you can use on them. expand on the grandma thing.

none of my gifts were wrapped...everyone came up with really cool gift bag ideas...I got a whole gift IN a baby tub. My mom made another baby tub into a COOLER. it was cool..just add ice and soft drinks and some rubber ducks. I was too shy to play games b/c I had all my in laws there and they are just a different breed! haha so I had everyone pass around this book and give advice to the mom and dad to be..it got comical actually and everyone loved it.

A really fun game to play is get some volunteers to participate in a beer drinking contest. Then once you have your voluteers all lined up in front of everyone, give them each thier beer- the kicker.....they are in baby bottles! It's so funny watching everyone try to finish the fastest while sucking from the bottles!

You could make your own voul-o vounts (sorry i cnt spell it)
For games you could play this really cool game i found in a magazine:
Blindfold all the players and get different types of baby foods, tell them what flavours there are and then ask them to guess which one's which when they taste them. It's great fun for all the guests and the grandma too!!
I don't think that it's tacky to ask for the gifts in gift bags. You could put all the gifts in a pram or basinet that way it looks lovely for the mother but that can be quite hard to move around!!
There's my tips hope you have a great baby shower!!
