Need ideas for a 3-course meal for a high school dinner theatre - theme absurd?!
Answers: I am a high school food science teacher and we are hosting a dinner theatre - theme 'absurd'- for which my department has to cater. I need ideas on "absurd" food and how to present food in an "absurd" way. The grades 10 and 11 will be preparing some of the food - most of it will be supplied by a caterer - we need ideas on presentation - we will be catering to 80 people.
I guess.. u could colour the food. like green spaghetti bolognaise or Pink mashed potatoes,
Pea Soup..(Green) with blue bread!
Maybe your could serve the dessert first & then the main course with the starter at the end!
Serve it on odd shaped plates or everyone with a different shaped one.
Or everyone with different glasses from pint sized to thimble sized.
Multi coloured napkins.
Tasks to complete inbetween courses. (fun ones)
Maybe people should have to move seats between courses too.
Weird music playing in the background.. ranging from somber funeral tunes to wild crazy ones.. with a few nursery rhymes thrown in!
Sounds fun!
That would be hard.
Some of this just might depend on how you are serving also, is buffet or served individually on plate.
salad
http://www.perfectentertaining.com/artic... they don't have to be cut in hearts!
main course turkdunken sure sound absurd to me,
kitty litter cake for desert both can be found here http://allrecipes.com/Cooks-Profile/Favo...
break a leg not a plate, hope this helps I love this web sight
Alice in Wonderland? The students could dress as chessmen or the Q of Hearts. It's been so long since I read it ...I suppose you would have to avoid psychedelic mushrooms...but you could have cup cakes with Cheshire cat faces.... I'm sure you have some creative students to brainstorm with.
it would be really "absurd" to have dessert first, then main course, then salad!
or maybe breakfast foods
Look online for some great recipes that are absurd. Planning is everything. Make sure you have a check-list of everything you need and designate students to be in charge of food, drinks and dessert, utensils, etc. Look for local party rental business for your table linens, forks, plates, knives and cups. They may have other objects in the warehouse that you may like to incorporate in your party. Sounds like you have a full plate. Good luck!
