I have found that the best dinner parties are not rushed... they sort of wind their way through an evening...when your guests are arriving have light snacks available lots of variety.. tiny stuff... grape tomatoes crackers.. a couple things to spread on crackers and some pickles...you know ....Serve a dinner that is not time sensitive... one that can sit a bit if people are talking and mingling... have pre dinner drinks and conversation...don't rush it. Dinner should be relaxed and comfortable.... try a champagne sherbet after each course... its palate cleansing and conversation stimulating... one scoop sherbet and a splash of champagne or any dry sparkling white wine...(i serve mine in a wine glass but anything works).. As long as possible avoid leaving your guests to fend for themselves... don't bury yourself in the kitchen.. and expect them to entertain themselves... be prepared to offer conversation stimulating questions... and accept that one conversation might not entertain the whole group you might need a few happening at once. Have background music... But i would avoid TV..it tends to stop conversation instead of encouraging it

Lea, good food, booze, music, maybe a card table, and an old movie on the DVD. Happy birthday, Max

mix of guests! even if you do not make it on your exact day, make sure the date is not a long weekend, friend′s friend wedding etcmake room for dancing!!!maybe dim the light in that area.
have great music,if you are clueless ask a friend to help.but have a mix not just one type of music.
do not make difficult food:tacos do not settle good on everyone′s stomach for example....or bean dip...or too greasy food like fried stuff ,or buffalo wings....
have some nice dips-bleu cheese,hummus.... with veggies, different breads to munch on so people do not drink on an empty stomach.a lasaga and a salad are nice and not too heavy.
have the alcohol your friends like but also juices and water so people can alternate an alkie drink with water.or do not serve too strong drinks.you want happy guests not drunk ones!
be a friend and if someone is too drunk to drive, take the keys away and call a cab for them.
depending at what time you serve dinner have a late snack ready, like little sanwiches-made in advance.have fun!!!

good music, food, games, and people

I have never been to a party where people were in a hurry to leave. I have had a few when I wondered if they ever would. LOL Just have good food, good friends, music and laughter and everyone is going to enjoy themselves for as long as you let them.
