They were drunk before Katrina, so it is okay! Sazeracs are tricky with no absinthe, so I recommend the "Swamp Thing"
One shot Vodka, one shot Midori, fill with pineapple and Sour Mix, garnish with a cherry.
Having been to the big party in New Orleans myself...the most common drink I found was the Hurricane...not even kidding.
go to www.drinkmixer.com they list several varieties if you want to jazz it up...I stick with just plain Hurricane.
Hurricane recipe
1 oz vodka
1/4 oz grenadine syrup
1 oz gin
1 oz light rum
1/2 oz Bacardi? 151 rum
1 oz amaretto almond liqueur
1 oz triple sec
grapefruit juice
pineapple juice
(and be careful...it sneaks up on you!)
