hmmm oden is very popular in Japan ( Asia ), It's somewhat like "fish on a stick" but not the real "fish fish". You can check wikipedia how they look like and you buy them in like China Town or an asia area. It's a really popular snack in Asia

I always enjoy Green Tea Ice Cream at the Japanese steak houses. But I also enjoy the quarter of a pineapple. They serve it in the rind, like they took a knife and loosened it from the rind, then made vertical slices and staggered them a bit. Beautiful and yummy!

The Japanese aren't really as into desserts as we are--though that is changing a bit with more western influence. Green tea ice cream or cake are traditional as is vanilla ice cream with red beans. Most of the desserts are candy made of rice or nut paste, and crafted into beautiful little shapes. I suggest googling a Green Tea cake recipe and if there is an asian market near you picking up some of the candies.

if you have a high end japanese-french bakery, get a cake.

japanese made french pastries are lighter and oftentimes tastier.
