John Travolta was from the 70s. Disco was pretty much dead by the 80s.

High collared jackets (Micheal Jackson/Thriller). Teased banged sprayed hair. Colorful eye shadow and mascara. Rockabilly skirts, with suspenders. Bowler/Derby hats). Fringed bobby sox with patent leather shoes. Leg warmers. Dark sunglasses. Bright sneakers with big logos.

Suits with crazy high shoulder pads. Dresses with same and BIG belts.

Goodwill/Salvation Army stores would be a great place to look

Old U2, Thompson Twins, Michael Jackson Thriller or Bad, Talking Heads, old Depeche Mode, old Madonna, Culture Club, George Michael and Wham, Adam Ant.

black stirrups and large sweaters especially ones that show one shoulder.

curl your bangs and then tease them into a big ball. Hairspray.

Disco ball. posters of ralph machhio and scott baio, A-team (BA baracus!)...

Dress like classic 80s madonna. Refer to Like a Virgin video. Also check out Cyndi Lauper.

Disco was in!!!!Remember John Travolta???and his disco ..LOL.

disco was 70s

watch Valley Girl for awesome ideas or 16 Candles, Pretty in Pink heres a link to a bunch of 80s movies http://www.fast-rewind.com/ think Madonna and Cindy Lauper, Punky Brewster....list is endless.
I have 80s parties every year - they are SO MUCH FUN!!!- we play 80s trivia- send me your direct email address and I can forward you mine if you'd like- otherwise go to the store and they have 80s Trivial Pursuit and other 80s trivia games.
Rubik's cubes, magic 8 balls, hungry hippo, old Atari games or old Nintendo games like Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, Frogger http://www.tripletsandus.com/80s/80s_gam...
decorate in neon colors- balloons, streamers, plastic table cloths- whatever you can find in neon (everything was neon back then) see if you can pick up some 80s posters of movies or big hair bands like Poison or Bon Jovi, Skid Row was another one. get some 80s mixed CDs to play all night- Best Buy has a bunch- I had picked a set of 9 CDs on Ebay for cheap all with the top songs from then.
just make regular food and drinks for the party- no one will notice if it was 80s or not!

Put on the John Hughes movies from the 80's such as "The Breakfast Club," "Sixteen Candles," and "Pretty in Pink."

You can go to youtube and check out the styles that Madonna wore, Cyndi Lauper wore, or even Janet Jackson. You could also get ideas from the movie "FlashDance" With the sweatshirts that have a cut out collar so that one side bares one of your shoulders and have a tank top underneath. Leg Warmers were big them, so were neon colors. Headbands (sweatband like) were also big. Also very big hair! Lots of hair spray and lots of teasing!

Have a great time! :)

have a contest where you have a somewhat large pile of eighties clothes and accesories and have guest create the best costume.
Have an air guitar contest.
play 2 secs of popular eighties songs having guest "name that tune" bonuses if they can name the album.

check out this site for ideas, it has all you need:

I graduated high school in 1989.

We used to drink wine coolers and we would add cool aid or ice tea to vodka. People drank beer from cans. People use to drink a lot of soda and flavored ones: orange, grape

We use to play a lot of drinking games: President (or some people called it A-hole), quaters, I'm going camping, open close, one up one down...............

We use to hit the diner at night after parties. We would always order things like potato skins, cheese fries or mozzarella sticks........... Dip made with Lipton onion soup mix to eat with potato chips seemed to be at every party. Carvel was very popular...(Wenesdays are Sundays at Carvel) We ate at Friendly's often. We went to the movies a lot and spent all weekend at the mall hanging out..........everyone would be there. We would get drunk in the parking lot or across the street from the mall in a wooded area then come back into the mall. Bubble gum and blowing bubbles...........

Almost everyone smoked cigarettes and so many people smoked pot. We were allowed to smoke cigarettes at school and many people also smoked pot there too.

The girls had big teased hair. Eye shadow consisted of pink, light blue and yellow worn all at the same time. White eye liner and blue eye liner was in. Colored mascaras in electric blue or green was in also. We wore white lip stick or bright pink. We use to heat up our eye liner pencil with a match before applying it. AuqaNet was the biggest selling hairspray. People put banana clips in their hair.

Girls wore: acid wash jeans or mini skirts, leggings with 2-3 different colored big socks scrunched in layers up the leg, bright colored stretch pants - some had letters or numbers on them; high top sneakers, a million black rubber braclettes, bicycle shorts and bicycle shorts under ripped up jeans or jean shorts....................I could go on and on..............

Guys wore: concert t-shirts, Cavaricci pants, parachute pants, high top sneakers

Everyone's bedroom was covered in posters of bands or famous celebrities. Tiger Beat was a popular celebrity magaizine. We listened to albums and taped songs off of the radio. Heavy metal, rap and pop music were all popular. Until 1985 going to the roller rink was huge. Arcades were popular and Atari was in.
