Decorations:
Make from construction paper-hearts, spades and diamonds. Place these around the room and on the backs of chairs. Make large playing cards on poster board to set around the room. Toss hats everywhere. Fill them with flowers. Use dolls hats for holding nuts, cookies, etc.

You could make little tags that say drink me and tie them on some teacups with string. Maybe some white roses, some painted red, and some not quite finished being painted.
Make some tea cookies, and with frosting write "eat me" on them.

top hats for sure. purple and velvets, as he was a felt worker and went nuts from the mercury poisoning.

Obviously tea and tea cake type things would be good. Maybe mismatched china? Or teapots filled with flowers. You could tie ribbons around the glasses and serving dishes with cards that said, "Eat me" and "drink me"

This website has neat Mad Hatter cakes that you might be able to use.

You could have candy or confetti in the shape of the suits of playing cards.

the tea party in question was a fantasy. decorations should be whimsical, i.e; oversized paper flowers, silly posters, etc. the food is easier. think high tea. tea and small sandwiches and small pastries (gourmandises). buy some silly big hats to wear.

In culinary school, I did a buffet w/an Alice in wonderland theme....I made top hats from wontons (cut out a circle for the hat base and connect the ends of a rectangle piece for the top hat part, then fry them in hot oil), fill it with some kind of creamy dip & pipe a little around the base to keep it connected. I also filled mini teacups with consomme. made "bread and butterflies" with mini sausages as the butterfly body and put them on baked tortillas (or crackers) in the shape of butterfly wings (use sprig of dill or other herb as antennas). good luck & have fun! there's also a ton of websites devoted to that specific theme of party!

here r some delicious little pastries and cookies to serve, since everyone else provided u with decorations..here r some food items to serve..russian tea cookies..heres the recipe

1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour

Bake for 12 minutes in the preheated oven. When cool, roll in remaining confectioners' sugar. I also like to roll mine in the sugar a second time.......
OF COURSE U HAVE TO HAVE TEA AND COFFE THERE, SO HOW ABOUT SOME COFFE CAKE AS WELL?..HERES AN AWESOME COFFEE CAKE RECIPE...

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2/3 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon milk

DIRECTIONS
Combine the first five ingredients; set aside. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Pour half of the batter into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Sprinkle with half of the graham cracker mixture. Carefully spoon the remaining batter on top. Sprinkle with the remaining graham cracker mixture. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Combine confectioners' sugar and milk; drizzle over cake.
AND OF COURSE..I AM THINKING U NEED "REAL FOODS" NOT JUST SNACKS RIGHT?... I SUGGEST JUST A BUNCH OF LITTLE FINGER FOODS.....
DEVILED EGGS....
12 eggs
1/2 cup mayonnaise
4 slices bacon
2 tablespoons finely shredded Cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon mustard

DIRECTIONS
Place eggs in a saucepan, and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, and cool. To cool more quickly, rinse eggs under cold running water.
Meanwhile, place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Alternatively, wrap bacon in paper towels and cook in the microwave for about 1 minute per slice. Crumble and set aside.
Peel the hard-cooked eggs, and cut in half lengthwise. Remove yolks to a small bowl. Mash egg yolks with mayonnaise, crumbled bacon and cheese. Stir in mustard. Fill egg white halves with the yolk mixture and refrigerate until serving.
