There are a few rules of thumb to follow if you're so inclined:
#1 family only. They aren't social at this age and frankly, one baby is enough to coo over. Lol
#2 Pick a time that's great for the baby. Is your baby happier in the morning, or after his nap, early evening? Really think about that and set the party time for the best baby time.
#3 Keep it short.
#4 Take loads of pictures/video and let someone ELSE do it so you can enjoy the baby.
#5 to make it fun for baby- and some great gift ideas too: choose things that you know your baby likes- ball pits are a big hit at this age (you can make your own with a small inflatable pool, no water obviously- and add a bunch of ballpit balls), as are sand boxes, sand/water tables (you can make your own with rice in a casserole dish or large roasting pan and sand box tools), mazes made out of cushions- boxes- pillows whether baby is walking or crawling are a big hit! If you use boxes, cut out windows so you can peek in and/or do a puppet show for them. Also with boxes, you can affix things inside the boxes for the baby to explore with- glue sand paper on the bottom in strips for sensory delights, and soft fabrics for "curtains" for the baby to move aside and peer through, ribbons of paper can be fixed to the top and allowed to dangle down and tickle baby's head as she crawls through, non choking hazard toys can be tossed in there to be discovered. Tents- babies love tents! Finger paints- look for nontoxic or make your own with vegetable dyes, play dough, Bubbles, musical instruments, balls that about the size of the baby's head or larger- the more the better. Push toys that light up and make noises.
Just don't PLAN a lot. Have plenty of stuff set up for fun- but don't expect that the baby watch an entire puppet show, or go through the whole maze, etc. Expectations should be kept to a minimum. IF your baby isn't used to being around a lot of people, I'd have a VERY small family party, or a couple of small family parties with just a few people at a time. If baby goes with the flo- invite loads of people and have fun!!
Most grocery store or bakery chains have a deal where they make the party cake and then 1 small individual cake for the baby to destroy. Can I recommend either stripping baby down to diaper or having one of those smock bibbs for this? It gets MESSY. Drop cloth, too. Trust me. ;-}
Either way, you'll have a great time. This is your baby's FIRST!! =)

Parties for one year olds are more for the parents than anyone. Make a cake, put him in a high chair and let him have at it, take tons of photos so you can share them with him when he's older so he'll know how much fun he had on his first birthday.
We always just invited family over and had dinner and took lots of pictures of the kids smashing into their cake or ripping open their presents and be fascinated by the wrapping paper much more so than the gift inside.

The only thing I've seen consistently done is having a separate small cake for the birthday boy so they can demolish it. It's a lot of fun for them and you'll get some great photos out of it.

here are a bunch of ideas http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/html/p...

have one of those BIG partys at some hall it would be realy cool

well when my neice was turning one my sister had a build a bear party we took like her god brother and 4 outher cousions to the build a bear workshop and then after that we went home and had ice cream and cake it was fun

One year olds don't play games, they're only one year old. Dessert would be a birthday cake and ice cream. Don't put alot of time or money into this party, kids don't remember them. Save the time and effort for when he's older and will remember and enjoy it.

1st birthday parties shouldn't be complicated, unless it's for the sake of the parents rather than the birthday child. One-year olds prefer small family gatherings to large bashes with lots of people (although that hasn't stopped me from throwing 1st birthday bashes for both my sons! :)).

However, I do make sure that there is at least one other item present, apart from the cake and ice cream, for the birthday child to enjoy - something preferably centred on something he/she loves to do. My older boy loved balls as a one year old, so I arranged for him to have a small ball pit on his birthday.

My younger son is more into exploring, so for his first birthday (which incidentally is this Saturday), I've made a cardboard tree house (to match the winnie the pooh theme of the party) and have played his pooh toys inside for him to crawl over and enjoy!

Whatever you do, do remember to take loads of pictures and have fun yourself. Happy birthday to your little boy!
