Need food ideas for an "after orthopedic surgery" party?!

Question: Well, I know this sounds crazy! But my 11 year old will be having scoliosis surgery (spinal fusion) in the late spring.
It's nerve racking of course, and she and I thought i would be fun to have a party after she is recovered.
She came up with the idea of having ribs (bones) which I thought was cute. So now we need some other thoughts to go with a bone/orthopedic kind of theme. So, serious answers only please, I'd love some help putting together a themed party for her.

How about a pasta salad made with "curvy" pasta like rotini? My husband also suggested manicotti or canneloni (straight, filled with "bone marrow")?

You could make all kinds of cookies and cut them out using a dog bone shaped cookie cutter and decorate them with icing. Or you could make them in the shape of gingerbread men and decorate them with skeletons using white cake decorating icing. See the links below for some cute ideas along this line.

It would be kind of funny to have "hardware" along with your ribs. Not sure how this could be done, but to have fake rods, screws, etc.

Might be easier to do on a cake...take steel rods, boil to sterylize, maybe encase in wax to be sure, place with other "instrumentation"...: -) Maybe I'm just being silly, but hey, that's kind of what this party is about!

Play operation.
have pasta shaped as bones or so sorta of doctory and make macaroni
