If you are at home, place the bag of ice in another bag and drop it on the floor and then take out your rolling pin, big wooden spoon or wooden mallet and whack it hard a few times.
Answers: If you are still at the supermarket, take that rubber divider thing at the check-out counter and slap the bag with that all over.

If still in the bag, drop bag on floor repeatedly until broken up. (Great stress reliever too!) Cement works best, ie your driveway or garage. If not in bag, put it in nonbreakable container like stainless steel bowl and whack repeatedly with a large spoon. To loosen up you could run a little hot water over it, but that would be easy to overdo.

Are you going to save it? Does it just need to be broken down for discard? Cover the ice with some type of plastic anything, flying ice can be dangerous.........grab a meat tenderizer, hammer or anything that has a hard edge. Then, make sure you have something to catch all of those falling icicles that begin to fall once you start smashing the block of ice. Good Luck! take the butt/handle of a large based knife, hold it upside down and strike the block with the blunt handle.

I'm guessing it's still in the original, unopened, heavy duty bag. Simply drop it a couple of times on a VERY HARD floor - like concrete. If you really need to de-stress, SLAM it to the floor.
