What would be a nice little menu (lunch) to serve to a girlfriend that I have not seen for 20 years?!

IF they are going out later for dinner I would just make a nice hearty soup and a big salad and some crusty bread. I doubt the food will matter since you will be catching up with someone you haven't seen for 20 years!

A nice (fairly large) salad.

Try a julienne salad, maybe add some grilled chicken.
A bunch of veggies, like tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and even cheese will make a simple salad elegant.

With that, maybe a small or simple dessert...pie, piece of cake, chocolate.

Good luck!

if it's been 20 years, it doesn't matter what you serve as long as you have some alcohol. otherwise it's going to be awkward.

Anything that you can make well. You want to be impressive i assume. Make a main dish with a beautiful salad as a back up and a little wine. Good luck

as Christina Houston said, salad will be good :) you prolly don't know whether she is vegetarian or not, and a nice salad always is good for everyone (well, maybe except for the fruitarians... nevermind that, though XD). Or maybe something chinese? Some simple yet effective thing, a sweet-and-sour chicken (if you're sure she's not vege :P) with rice, or maybe something spicy.
and a nice cake will be superb. A brownie or a cheescake :3nod:

Try this main recipe see if they will like it...we call it here in the philippines KALDERETA

I have three recommendations;

1. Salad Nicoise. The nice thing is that you can make this ahead of time and serve it cold from the frig. It is not expensive but looks it. Just use canned tuna. Serve with some crusty French bread.

2. Fish Tacos. These are absolutely delicious and light. Here is the recipe, the only thing I would add is chopped cilantro and chopped green onion.

3. Chinese Lettuce Wraps. If your not big on fish this is a great option. Fresh and light:
