Hello! My son is making his First Holy Communion in April and I need to put together a menu for a large crowd!

Question: for a party after Mass and I need some suggestions on what to cook. Thank you for all of your help!

When I had my daughters we did a cookout. It was nice to be able to have everyone just be able to have a plate and wander and socialize with each other. This is one of those occasions that usually you invite all of the extended family that you don't get to see all the time and this way you aren't consumed with having to run around fixing and preparing everything you will be able to enjoy the day too.
I had my immediate family (mom, brother, sister) each bring something like a salad that helped too.

POT ROAST

ROAST POTATOS

CABBAGE ROLLS

ROAST RED PEPPERS

CESAR SALAD

MIX BEAN SALAD

BY A FEW CAKES AND CALL IT A DAY

Enjoy!

Is anyone allergic to anything? A vegetarian? Vegan?

If you answered no, then the meal plan will be easy!!!

For the main dish, I suggest either a whole turkey (this way you can slice and it will serve many). Not to mention, a whole turkey isn't too expensive like, let's say, a lean piece of pork loin.

Since it is April, the weather (hopefully) will be nice. Try a macaroni salad for a side, simple, yet effective. Also, the cost is quite low considering the main ingredient is pasta. Here is a good recipe:

Another side dish could be roasted potatoes in the oven along with carrots. Here is a great recipe (I love Ina Garten):

For desert, I would buy a sheet cake (make your life simple) and just have the grocery store (or wherever you buy cakes from) decorate it with a nice saying...maybe your son's name and "Happy First Holy Communion Love You" etc. Along with the cake, you can always buy a tub of icecream (Again, this is in bulk therefore you will be cutting down on cost).

Hopefully this gives you a start. Good luck!

What I would do is get some finger sandwiches and salads. They make them up at any food store. It is very reasonable and also gives a nice variety of things for your company to choose from.
