Put together a couple fruit trays and veggie trays with dip, those are always popular. Save money and just get the ranch dip powder packet that you swirl in sour cream. Another thing you could do is buy dinner rolls in bulk, cut them in half and then have a sort of make your own sandwich buffet with sliced turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, condiments, cheeses. Store bought cakes can be purchased fairly cheap, if you have a costco nearby, you can get large sheet cakes for like 15 bucks that would serve 20, no problem. Good luck and happy birthday to the little one.

sandwiches sausage rolls crisps nuts them bring somthing to contribute to keep cost down

a first birthday isn`t usually catered . what we did was to just make sloppy joes ( very tasty and easy and cheap to make ) also ask some of your close friends to make one dish . order a birthday cake from your local super market and viola , you have a party . decorate with balloons and matching accesories from a local craft store and get partying

You can always buy the food from a caterer and set it up yourself. It will be a lot more affordable. What kind of food are you wanting? You could have pizza's delivered. Or do snack foods...Good Luck.

All three of my daughters sons had excellent first birthday parties. We only served pizza, relish tray and dip and chips with drinks of choice. Cake and ice cream of course. What made their parties so special is that my son in law made a DVD of their first year with captions and music. He included alot of the very people that would be at the party and of course some humerous events from the year. That was a great hit. Also, our church is huge and has the perfect set up for any size party. We had it in the play room for toddlers, complete with jungle gym, appropriate sized potties and of course the AV equipment. My daughter is great about making sure everyone has something to take home. Kids look forward to her parties and even the adults like their treats.

Sanwiches, sausage rolls, cocktail sausages, pork pies, scotch eggs, chicken nuggets, etc

Go to Costco's (or a similar store) and buy a couple of large pans of lasagne. Easy to reheat and serves a lot of people. Buy some nice crusty bread to go with it and make a couple of salads to accompany it. You should have some nibblies out before the main meal like veggies & dips and different dips (can be premade store bought dips) with crackers or pita bread to dip in it.

Kind of sad you had a child you're going to be too lazy to cook for. But I digress.....

Get deli meat, lettuce, tomato, bread, condiments, and let everyone make their own sandiwches. Get some potato salad or some other sides from the deli....Big pot of spaghetti, pretty easy to make.
