Would you enjoy this??!

Question: I am looking for honest thoughts an opinions...i realize that it's my choice and what I want but what do you think?

I was thinking that instead of the normal dinner at our wedding reception that I would have a "cocktail party" to stick with the funky/cool theme of the room. Serving appetisers(sp?) instead of an actual meal.
Food such as:
chocolate & vanilla dipped strawberries
cheeses, crackers, meats
little smokies
small chicken wings
several diff.dips
sev. diff. pie wedges
((basically everyones favorite finger foods))

A LARGE VARIETY of foods all around the room.

Why?
Because when you serve an actual meal then people usually get thier plates and sit down with people that THEY ALREADY KNOW and only talk to that small "clique" of people.
With the different serving tables all around the room then people would be forced to walk around and socialize...
Also this would allow us to serve a larger variety of food
(we will no be having a seating chart)

My favorite wedding reception ever was one just like what you're describing. It kept people circulating, was less expensive for the families, provided enough variety to please every palate, and nobody had to wait to eat. It was really fun.

Congratulations, too, by the way! Best of wishes to you!

P.S. There were places for people to sit, but the tables & chairs were off to one side and there were, intentionally, only enough for about 2/3 of the people there, so it kept people hopping up and down.

yes i will

I think it's a great idea! I would really enjoy it.

That's a great idea , people are gonna love it !!

Sounds ok can't say food selection sounds that nice though, we are having a bbq at our wedding reception for something different and informal - maybe they could do that

I think you have a good idea, but older people will want to sit down, there is no getting around that.
Remember it is your wedding

It's your reception you do as you want. I think its a great idea myself! Good luck and congratulations!!!

i say don't think twice about it and please don't concern yourself if you have ppl that doesn't agree...this one of the biggest events of your life and its should be the way you like it....i really think it is a great idea...ummm you might be onto something...go for it :) !!!!

best to you :)

That the idea i had for my wedding. People make weddings all about the food and they just sit and eat and thats the end of the evening. I wondered, "why does it have to beef, chicken or pork?" i'm sure it's a lot more fun to sample a wide variety of new and exciting dishes.......... I hope my reception will be like that. Fun with dancing and mingling to make it more memorable...........tip: start it earlier...........you get to have more dancing and you get to wear you gown longer..............lol

OH YES!!!!
Queenie, a wedding is about you two celebrating your love and beginning your new life together. It's about sharing this with people you love, and wanting them to be happy too.
It's NOT about spending money you haven't got, nor trying to impress anyone!
Right now I'm raising a glass of our elderberry wine to you and your beloved, and wishing you a long and happy life together!

Is this my invitation? All that sounds good but make sure there are some hearty finger foods out there.

My friend married a girl whose family had some money. The reception dinner was a Salmon, Pate, and other snobby foods. We snuck out and went to 7-11 for some chips and burritos, then returned to the reception.

Not having enough food, or making people work to hard to get the food (i.e. having to walk around picking up little bits of food) can lead to:

1. Hungry guests (especially the older ones)
2. Drunk guests (especially the younger ones)

Hope that helps.

sounds good to me!

I think it's an excellent idea. Keeps your reception informal and people enjoy that more...at least I think they do. A sit down dinner is so formal and can really turn people off. However I would strongly suggest that you have some seating, not everyone will want to stand around the entire time. Consider bringing in couches and large padded ottomans. Looked at the picture, you could do amazing things with this venue. Good luck and if nothing more, don't stress over anything as it's your wedding day and your marrying the one you love, not throwing the party of the year.
