I'm going to a BBQ this weekend and all my husband's friends begged me to bring my "famous" 7 layer dip.
In a large casserole dish, you layer a mixture of refried beans and bean dip.
Then for the next layer you mix a container of sour cream and a packet of taco seasoning. spread that over the bean layer.
The next layer is gaucamole. I make my own, but it's easier to just buy some.
Next you chop up a bundle of green onions and layer that on.
Next you chop up two tomatoes and add those.
Then a jar of sliced black olives.
Then you top it off with a package of cheddar cheese.
Everyone loves it!

cole slaw

BBQ's scream out for potato salad and baked beans. I know that's not super original, but how about:
Hot German Potato salad and Texas caviar (made with black eyed peas, chiles & onion and served cold. That would be a twist on the norm. Hot potato salad and cold beans.
Mikes Taco Dip:
INGREDIENTS
* 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
* 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
* 1 dash hot pepper sauce
* 1 dash soy sauce
* 2 teaspoons lemon juice
* 1 (16 ounce) jar salsa
* 1 bunch green onions, chopped
* 1 (2 ounce) can sliced black olives
* 1/2 head iceberg lettuce - rinsed, dried, and shredded
* 8 ounces finely shredded Cheddar cheese
* 2 tomatoes, seeded and chopped
DIRECTIONS
1. Cream together cream cheese, sour cream, hot sauce, soy sauce, and lemon juice. Spread this mixture into a 9x13 inch glass dish. Layer salsa, green onions, black olives, lettuce, cheddar cheese and tomatoes over the cream cheese mixture. Cover with plastic wrap and gently press the ingredients down to tighten the layers. Chill before serving.

hi there,
here are a few ideas:
mac and cheese
rolls / bread
casseroles
pasta salad
potato salad
cole slaw
beef -- to grill
chicken-- to grill
already made patted burgers
hot dogs
dessert
drinks
Tell them to bring Fiorella's ribs and Brisket.
Smokestack beans.
Send someone to Gate's and Arthur Bryants to get some sauce.
Make sure you have some people bringing desserts. People are always so busy bringing the main dishes and sides, that they never seem to remember some people have a sweet tooth as well. Ask for desserts like apple pie, key lime pie, cheesecake, brownies, cookies, or a nice simple pound cake. Oh, and some ice cream!
