Hosting a baby shower and have question on how much food to serve?!

Question: Hi there!

I am not sure how many people will be attending the shower yet, but somewhere between 10-18. I rarely host anything at my home, so I have no idea how much food to serve.

Is there a formula of some sort? Something like 1 dish or appetizer per person I should follow?

I will be starting the baby shower at 1 pm. I was thinking of 1 pasta salad, 1 green salad and some appetizers as well. For drink they can choose between punch and water with cucumbers in it. Any ideas or suggestions are very much welcomed!

Thanks,

Thanks,

After hosting several (over 10) baby and bridal showers, you are better off keeping it simple. You can make any kind of foods but finger foods will go over really well. Spinach dip in a round hallowed out bread bowl and a few baguettes sliced thin and surrounding the round bread bowl goes over really well. Serve some potato chips next to it too. You can get frozen pre made meatballs, buy a honey garlic sauce (Safeway & or Fry's carries Safeway select brand - awesome) and put the meatballs and sauce in the crockpot to warm - those are awesome and go over great. you can serve a veggie tray with ranch dip too. lastly I would buy some mini croissants and mini rolls and have a small meat and cheese platter out with some mayo and mustard (you could get real fancy and put the condiments in halved bell peppers to look famcy if you want) remember to add a small bell pepper with black olives and some pickles. There your food is done and guaranteed they will eat it - and you can always eat what is left over. Guaranteed easy and successful. Good luck!

I wouldn't bother with the salads. People will most likely have already eaten before they come. Serve finger foods. Like chicken bites wrapped in bacon w/ bbq sauce, and other small things like quiche. If you stick with finger foods and things with toothpicks in them you wont have to wash silverware or buy disposables.

1st off... i would choose the actual meal or snack to be something a little more filling than salad.

Although salad is a good and healthy choice i think that maybe you should serve something such as Baked or Grilled chicken with lemon spritzed on top, and on the side of that you can offer salad like you were planning on making before.

The drinks that you will server sounds pretty good so your good there. And the average person will most likely eat just 1 plate, BUT to be on the safe side and possible avoid embarrassment, make enough for everyone to at LEAST get two plates... This way you can be totally prepared JUST IN CASE people decide to get two plates.

Good Luck! and have fun!

That sounds good. Togos sandwiches are always good, spiral hams, cake, white & red wines. Also concentrate on games & prices.

Finger foods. Healthy is always good. Veggie and fruit platters. Crackers, cheese, a little luncheon meat. You are better to have extra than not enough. Add if there are any left over veggies for example, you could use them to make a stir fry the next night for supper. Drinks you could have fruit punch or even offer green tea or coffee.

That sounds good and I know you want to have enough food so just use bags of snaks that can be open if you run out and plenty of crackers with the salads.

a couple pounds of pasta salad should be fine don't forget pasta goes a long way, you can add so many things too make it stretch like olives, peppers, tomatoes, cukes, chickpeas and even onions. add Italian dressing and you have one type of salad , a toss salad one big bag already chopped you can add things to that too don't put any dressing on just have a couple of dressing for them to choose from. have some cheese and crackers too and even do some thing other than water and punch maybe some type or fruit juice from dole .

Because most of your guest are probably coming from eating lunch I would do more of a dessert themed buffet. You could offer a few finger sandwiches for those who need something a bit more substantial. Mini cheesecakes, brownie bites, scones, miniature cookies or tarts. Offer coffee (regular & decaf) along with some fancy creamers, sweetners and sugar cubes. Water and a possible punch sounds nice too. Having small bowls of nuts, mints, m&m's is a good idea as well. I'm sure everything will be wonderful no matter what you serve. Best!

When I planned by dtr's shower, we had a veggie tray and chicken pasta salad, we also had a tray of mini deli sandwiches, and some wings. We also had a cookie tray then we had a fruit bowl that way people could chose what they wanted since its after lunchtime and before dinner, it was nice. We had the cake and served a Fruit punch and we had wine and mixed drinks for those that wanted it and it was a success. Good Luck to you
