What type of theme would be great for a 40th surprise birthday party?!
Answers: "over the hill" when I turned 40 my sisters had this for me every one wore black (like they were going to a funeral). they came to where I work and had a funeral procession for me as I was getting off work, they then took me to my home where they decorated the yard with a new headstone saying my youth had died. all the food was black or dark brown. I did get 40 gifts-- 40 things every old person needs efferdent, a walker, depends etc..etc.. they even cut the cups out of a bra and sewed tube socks on. my cake was a regular cake someone had made to look like a pile of sh*t. it said "40 is the SH*TS" it was squished brownies with raisins and tootsie rolls. we had a great time. I have had lots of fun since then getting revenge when they all turned forty.

Well I went to this 50th birthday surprise party and they had it themed from the 1950's and it was really cool.
So maybe you could do a 1940's themed party. With popular music and clothes from back then. ;]
How about a step back in time theme. :)
A murder mystery dinner party would be fun!
