Unique 50th birthday party ideas?!

Question: My sister will be 50 this Oct and I want to give her a great party but she doesn't want the "cliche" over the hill (etc.) parties. I have searched the net but can't find anything that sounds unique and different. This is the first party anyone has ever thrown for her so I want it to be special. The guests will be mostly family, adult and children, and will probably be about 50 to 75 people and last until around midnight. No alcohol will be served. I need theme and game ideas. I want this party to blow her away and give her great memories for the rest of her life. Her interests are simple and there is no artist or celebrity that is her favorite. She does like to watch horror movies but basically she favors reading and sitting on the porch on pretty days. She is a christian. Help. Give me any and all of your wackiest and crazy ideas. Thanks.

Hi here are some great themes

Sapphire party have all your guests dress in a shade of blue (like you more common sapphire) then have your sister wear yellow (like a rear sapphire) in this event all eyes will be on her. Then you can have a d.j., and dance the night away if you don’t want to dance then throw a fashion show with a runway and everything (have our sister go on last)

Crazy color theme: go to a party city or just an average party supplies store and look at their solid table wear pick three to four really bright colors then buy table an even number of table clothes in each color then divide the colors you use for your cups plates forks ect. (http://www.partycity.com/cgi-bin/parties... also with those same colors find the streamers to match and just go wild with them, also find the balloons to match then take one of each color and separate them one closest to the table then the next a lil higher, then the next just a lil higher and so on for your centerpieces much like this (http://wrapituppartyplanning.com/images/... but separated if you look at the website that this picture came from you will see what I am talking about…then hve your guest dress in a whole bunch of crazy color and collect a dollar from everyone at the door and award the craziest dressed person with the money

Sounds like she likes the outdoors and to reflect. You could rent a pool so everybodys outside, and let the kids play in it. Maybe as a gift setup something really nice in her backyard, like a garden or steps leading to one, or setting up a hammock or bench-swing so she can be closer to nature than on the porch. Other party ideas...I like playing Taboo with friends, or pictionary. If theres a lot of guys, maybe organize a basketball or football game, and for ladies, get a alot of makeup and moisturizers and drink martinis watching Sex in the city.

a 1950's Decade Party .... do it like a "sock hop" with 1950's/ early 60's do-wop music. Yes, I know she doesn't remember the 50's, but it's a fun idea, and commemorates WHEN she was born .... Think "Happy Days"

I'm going to a 50's sock hop party (also turning 50)......but honestly I don't want to waste my money on a costume that will be worn only once especially for the womans costume....its just too much to deal with.

If you have a big backyard, you can set a bistro style party during the evening where you can rent or buy bistro table, place candles as a centerpice, place luminaries around the backyard, music in the background. Picnic table type for the kids. Its hard to predict the weather though, but you can still do it inside....just get those LED candles (very safe). Collect pictures for a slideshow.

go to a retirement home
