Italian Pot-Luck Party?!
I am planning an Italian potluck birthday party. What are some unique decorating ideas? There will be about 10 women attending. What would a good idea be for a small thank you gift for each person to take home?
Thanks!

When I think of Italy, I think of Tuscany: Fresh flowers, baskets of rustic breads, candles, cheeses, Dean Martin in the background along with Andreas Boccelli, Chianit, Sangeovese, Pinot Grigio, platters of steaming pasta, antipasti plates of fennel salumi, genoa salumi, sopressata, capicola, provolone, sardines in oil etc.
For gifts, perhaps a small clay pot with potting soil and a bag of seeds tied with raffia and a note saying thank you and something about "planting the seeds of friendship"...
Definitely white and red checkered table clothes, wine bottles with candles in them with the wax dripping down, soft "O-solo-Meo- type music playing, a bread basket on every table.
You say "women" so I'll assume, perhaps wrongly, that everyone is over 21, if so give out a bottle of Italian wine,
A little espresso cup with biscotti and/or a chocolate dipped demitasse spoon would be an enjoyable parting gift.
You could tie a pretty ribbon around a little wrapped biscotti or mini-canoli with a tiny note in calligraphy that says "Grazie" or something similar to that.
If you have time to order something online, Vosges has some Italian themes truffles, with balsamic vinegar and sea salt, which are a little pricey, but taste WONDERFUL.
Good luck, and have a GREAT time!
a split (single serving) of an italian wine. check with your local ABC liquor/wine stores or even a wine warehouse. Where I live we have a stores like this called vines, wine warehouse and wine and beer market.
