Newcastle...it will compliment those potatoes nicely...watch ;)
If they want something a little lighter, go with some hefeweizen.
Nothing wrong with good old domestics either.
I'd go with Killian's Irish Red. It's sweet and will compliment your dishes!

I would say Corona or Heinekin. Everyone likes them both. Just make sure you have lime on hand.
