cream tea - as pointed out by you know who, is simple a nice cuppa tea with scone stawberry jam and clotted cream - yummy... dat is de best...
but afternoon tea would be nice with:
some fruit cake.
poached salmon mixed in with some cream sarnies.
roast beef and mustard, gotta be rare and gotta be colmans english.
egg may, with cress - omg so good...
maybe a few little cup cakes, or a LEMON drizzle (with no nuts)

Do you mean high tea or afternoon tea? Cream tea is tea, scones, clotted cream & strawberry jam.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
1 cup French vanilla flavored powdered non-dairy creamer
2 1/2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups unsweetened instant tea
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, combine milk powder, non-dairy creamer, vanilla flavored creamer, sugar and instant tea. Stir in ginger, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom. In a blender or food processor, blend 1 cup at a time, until mixture is the consistency of fine powder.
To serve: Stir 2 heaping tablespoons Chai tea mixture into a mug of hot water.

You don't have sandwiches with a cream tea. IF you have sandwiches then it is HIGH TEA. Cucumber sandwiches are the norm!

a proper cream tea is plain sweet scone with alittle jam then clotted cream on top, (it has to be in that order) tea, cucumber sandwiches. it's only meant to be light at 3oclock
For cream tea add clove and cardamon.

High tea is served a little later and consists of a cooked dish and a cup of tea
If you wanted to add a cake as well, you could have a Victoria sponge, which is traditional, plain and light and won't overpower the rest of the food.
A cream tea consists of tea and scones with clotted cream & strawberry jam - nothing else in my opinion; high tea incorporates cucmber sandwiches into the mix! However, it is an extremely old fashioned idea and one that normally solely exists within the hospitality industry. (Another way of fleecing American tourists - the workers barely get a tea break....)
