What side of my dinner guests should I put the side plates?!

Question: left. You place the utensils in the order they will be used, starting on the outside. the shrimp or h'ordeurve fork is on the outside left, then the salad fork, then the dinner fork, then your plate, then your dinner knife, then your butter knife. Top of your plate will have your desert spoon and above that the coffee or tea spoon. Salad plate goes on top of dinner plate, soup bowl goes on top of salad plate. Bread plate goes to the left of the forks and your glasses start from left ,first with the water glass on the top left (at 11 o'clock, and coffee cup above the spoons and the wine glassed to the right, starting with champagne, then wine and then sherry.

Like you needed to knw all that.

Have fun!

left side

Always on the left.

left hand side for side plates, right side for glass.

The left side, the right for glasses, cups. Bon Apetit!

left left dinner platey

To the left, to left!!

bread plates on the left- salad if not served on the plate (or as a separate course to the right)

On the left so it is easier to use the knife with the right hand for buttering the roll and easier to pick up the wine glass that is placed on the right.

Easy to remember: since most of us are right handed and it is easier to pick up a glass with a steady and strong hand, glasses go on the right.

Since solids require less to dexterity, they go on the left.

This also explains why knives and spoons are on the right and forks on the left.

On their left
