What to do for a 30th birthday party?!

Question: What to do for a 30th birthday party!?
My boyfriend is turning 30 on July!. I want to do something nice for him but I want it to be really low-key and laid back!. There are a lot of his buddies from high school that I know he would love to see, so I was thinking of inviting them as a surprise and his other close friends and family!.

I am on a pretty low budget so I am having a hard time coming up with what we could do!. We live in an apartment so I was thinking of renting out the community room and providing drinks, snacks (appetizer type things), etc!. Or, maybe going to a bar or restaurant!.

I know he wouldn't be into a themed party or anything extravagant, just thought it would be nice to have a get-together!. But I'm not good at planning!.!.!.

So any suggestions!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
i say rent the community room and have the gang and family over
it will probly be cheaper to get drinks and food that way rather than going out!.
just keep it simple!.
play music from a boombox or ipod and speakers!.
do appetizers like you said-
hotdogs in bbq sauce in a crockpot
7 layer dip with chips
veggie tray with dips
fruit tray with dips
shirmp cocktail
pepperoni dip (i can send the recipe)
hot spinach and articoke dip
crab dipWww@FoodAQ@Com

Low budget, go to a city or county park!. Use the money you save from renting a "community room" and buy a keg and the all the trimmings!. A1/4 barrel should do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Love the answer before - organise a picnic and ask each guest to bring a plate of food and a bottle, you add some beer yourself, take a couple of frisbees and away you go!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
