Answers:
Will people be changing clothes after the prom? If not, keep in mind that people have invested a lot of money in their prom attire. They would probably like to wear it again, or return it in perfect shape to the rental company.

So, keep that in mind when planning food and drink. Avoid colored drinks, such as Hawaiian punch type stuff which will stain horribly. Water with lemon slices ALWAYS tastes good! Forget hot wings, for obvious reasons. Salsa always ends up on someone's lap. I think the most sensible food would be a "make your own sandwich" bar. Deli meats, lettuce, cheese, bread, pickles. That works for people who just want to snack, and for those who are really hungry. Potato chips (baked). They don't have the grease to stain a dress.
As far as what to do, I can't be as helpful. You know your friends better than anyone. What could you all do that would make you all laugh and laugh and laugh? Karaoke? A game of charades? (You can always do a game of charades acting out a teacher, or an "inside joke."

Have fun!

try to be light on food and drinks, make it as nostalgic as possible

ham sandwich chip pickle

Beer and Hot wings

Everyone will be happy with pizza, chips, salsa, taco dip, maybe some fruits and veggie platters, and soda.

As for what to do, why not rent a projector to watch movies if you have a large wall to watch movies on. Have a casino night and have your guests donate an item for everyone to win. You can use chips and pretend money that your guests can cash in for prizes. Put pretend high dollar amounts on all your prizes. Keep the prizes simple, like pizza certificates, CD's, manicures, etc...

Booze, Music, Food and have rooms for peole to fool around in, and make sure you have someone to fool around with
