Since you are having the party in a restaurant, you'll be limited in the decorations you can have. You might find some things you can use from th web site I will offer. Search for their Island Luau. They offer straw hats or PARROT hats you could get for your guests to wear.Suggest they come in tropical dress, and give them all leis. I could go on and on. Check out the site to see what you like. You should also go to Party City. They are overloaded with things with a tropical theme now.

try red lobster!

Do a tropical theme!
He likes Buffet, so have everyone wear tropical shirts or skirts, and buy him one as a gift, so he'll have one too.
Put out tiki torches and blow up pool toys.
Buy cheap kiddie pools and fill with ice and put drinks in.
Put little umbrellas in everyones drinks.
Do a cook-out and assign a dish if you want, for everyone to bring.
Of course have Jimmy Buffet cds playing, plus some reggae and island music.
Have hoola hoops around, and have a contest.
Have plates and cups with huge flowers or palm trees on them.
Have plastic or blow up parrots on the food tables.

book him a stripper

Get him a chick that comes out of the cake... Nah seriously there are heaps of great ideas you could do. Pirates theme, dress him up as the Captain and sit him at the head of the table; or a margarita party... Only you can only drink margaritas... Demons and angles... Vixens and Villians...or....If you are really mean I would get everyone to hide his birthday presents and make him go on a scavanger hunt for them.

Or this I found on the net...
Sherill's turning 5.....ooops typo, left the 0 off. Yes a fiftieth planned like a 5 year old party for adults. The bar was a cordial bar (in the absence of parents...help yourself!). Rum became Jamaican Cordial, Bourbon - Kentucky cordial and so on with all signs written in childlike writing. We added a tall jar of colorful jellybeans, neon straws, neon sherbet sticks, colored RTD's that looked like kids drinks and hey presto it looked like a kids party. Next add a sandpit, a water feature, moon hopper toys and balloons, pin the tail on the donkey(and if someone gives you a pinup calendar for a present you can make the donkey redundant!!!): pass the parcel with 5yr old girlie jewelry,(men look cute in clipon plastic diamond earrings)masks, party headbands and the coveted Barbie Doll as the big prize only swap that for a grey headed geriatric doll available at the craft shop for use as the inner for those lovely toilet roll holders. A scavenger hunt with teams and requiring some adult articles that may be a bit risqu? with a prize box full of party hats, masks hooters and things soon gets the party rolling. If you didn't know everyone before this you will now! Party food: fairy bread, cheerio sausages, savories and other kid like stuff. The cake, a large platter of individual cupcakes, once again with the bright colored theme carrying through with neon icing and neon candles. Each party person gets a cake with their own candle to blow out.....now wouldn't you just have loved that chance when you were 5??? Good friends, well planned music and you will have a party to remember. It was just great!

Sounds like you have the party, and theme, all planned out. Don't forget the jambox loaded w/ Buffet tunes!

Maybe hand out pirate eye patches and bandanas as guests arrive. Be sure and get a picture w/ all of them in eye patches and bandanas on their heads!
