I make cheesecakes to die for. If they don't look perfect, and they rarely do!, I cover them in pansies or nasturtium, edible and pretty.

This would work well for a regular iced cake as well. another thing that is VERY pretty is getting a wide stiff ribbon and wrapping it around the side of the cake. I paid way too much for a cheesecake yesterday for mothers day that had such a ribbon and then flowers on top. It was, however, chocolate decadence.

This mama COOKS! Fun site. Good ideas.

I hope these help.

when you decide to frost a cake, take a butter knife and make swift whisks all over your cake. Be sure not to puncture the cake. You can also get more instructions for this and many more all over on the web!
To add a ribbon, you need to buy one of those cheap cans of frosting with the spray nozzel and use the one that says leaf. It is pretty much like drawing a ribbon. Good luck!

You can also fancy up your cake with some real flowers on top (varieties that are safe to eat, of course, even if people probably won't be consuming them). They look lovely on a cake.

I think the best way to do this would probably be to do an image search online. I have always found that pictures tend to spark plenty of ideas for unique and elegant cakes.

Cascading ribbons do add an elegant touch to a plain looking tiered cake. There are various other ways to dress up a cake. What you can do to that extent depends somewhat on how much you are willing to spend.

One place I’ve found that has great pictures to get ideas from is http://design-wedding-cakes-pi... There are many easy to duplicate ideas there to “elegant” up a cake. Such as adding flowers, including artificial flowers, real flowers and those made from icing. The ideas you can get there are almost limitless.

Not only do they have info on helping make your cakes more elegant, there is also info on all areas of cake decorating and there are recipes to be found there as well.

WAL MART AND SOME SPECIALTY STORES, HAVE FROSTING FLOWERS IN THEIR CRAFT SECTION. THEY ARE EDIBLE AND COME IN MANY COLORS. YOU CAN PIPE FROSTING AROUND THE EDGES OF YOUR CAKE, AND MAKE LEAVES WITH FROSTING USING A LEAF DECORATING TIP.

You can garnish with chocolate shavings or sugared fruit (fruit dipped in water or egg white then dipped in sugar for a crystalized look). Depending on the flavor of cake you could drizzle a syrup over it too. For example if it was a chocolate cake w/choclate frosting, you could drizzle caramel sauce over top. Chopped nuts or shredded, toasted coconut around the side of a cake makes it look nice as well.

Making roses out of frosting is difficult for beginners. You really need to have someone show you how to do it rather than reading directions.

for my wedding cake we used a small clear bowl with flower foam in it then used matching flowers to the bouquet!! stuck a rose bud in here and there with some bits of fern, it was so pretty!!! You can rent fountains for cakes at cake decorating stores which we did also.

u can use fondant which is like edible clay to design flowers and add them to your cake or spirals or plaid
