How do you make a cheetah shaped birthday cake?!

Question:

How do you make a cheetah shaped birthday cake?

My son's birthday is on Saturday, and he insists on a cheetah cake - help! I need to know how to make a cake in the shape of a cheetah. Whenever I suggest another animal shaped cake, he says no. Can you think of a good website where I can find some instructions on how to make a cake shaped like a cheetah. Thanks!

wow thats a hard one i am no chef or cook but you may want to let the professionals handle those. teehee

look for a cheeta picture online
e.g.

make a standard rectangle chocholate cake
cut the cheeta picture
put it on the cake
cut the cake acordingly
use yellow candy of some sort for the cheeta's spots.

You need to just get a cheetah shape, such as something from a coloring book.

Bake a layer cake in a 9x13 pan. Place on a cardboard. Cut so you have a piece about 6 x 13. Out of that smaller piece, cut a tail section and then a smaller section for a head and ear. Stick the pieces together with a little frosting. Then draw a simple cheetah shape with tail (freehand) on a piece of paper. Cut it out and place on the cake. Now use a knife and cut the shape more precisely. Then frost in different colors for cheetah colors.

It doesn't have to be perfect, but if you use the right colors and spotting, it looks just like a cheetah. I've made a lot of animal shapes doing it this way. To perfect it even better, do it all out on paper first. Start with a 9x 13 piece, cut and shape. It builds confidence so you can do the cake easier.

What you need is your favorite, or in this case your son's favorite cake recipe, mix or from scratch, and 2 large rectangular cake pans. Get yourself a picture, preferably a side view, of a cheetah and go to your local photocopy place and get them to blow it up to the size you want your cake to be.

Now bake yourself two large rectangular cakes and let them cool to room temp. Mix up the icing you want to use and then unpan the two cakes and place them on top of each other on a table top. You might want to use some wax paper between the two to keep them from sticking together. Now lay the picture across the top of the top layer and cut around it to get the shape of the cheetah. Make sure you cut all the way through both layers so that you don't have to go back over it because that can ruin the shape. Now seperate the two layers and decorate the bottom layer with icing or fruit filling or whatever you would usually use. Now put the top layer in place and complete the decoration with yellow/tan icing and black icing for the spots. The icing can be flavored or not, whatever you prefer. Piping bags can be used for drawing with the icing if you want or a palate knife can be used to sculpt the icing. Good Luck!

Find a clear picture of a cheetah that shows a well defined shape! Make a template by tracing over the picture on to greaseproof paper, cut this out.
Now bake a couple of sponge cakes, cut to fit the required shape (you can stick them together with cream or butter icing)
Cut out the shape and ice to look like a cheetah! or use whipped cream and chocolate shavings to decorate, Good Luck!
