Heya,
for my little borther bristhday, we also had pass the parcell a few times which was a real hit with the kids aged 5-8.
they also played musical chairs though if your stuck for space/clearing up help, musical statues is also good.
Simon says is a real favorite too as its easy to do.

Add prizes for all the games and the kids will have a blast, also, makse sure you giveeach child a goodie bag soones who dont win dont get upset etc... if its a big space but one where you can keep an eye on the, you can play blind mans bluff: ie a sports or other hall.
ifthe kids like to dance a little dance comp would go down well too!! with whatever music your son and his guest like.

well i hope this helped and hope you have a stress free,a dn your son a fun {birth}day!!! x x

Scavenger hunt! Or decorate your own cupcakes.

Really the best thing to do is play simple games, and go to the dollar store and buy little summer toys and trinkets. I had my kids birthdays just like that and the kids just LOVE to recieve the prizes. Ummmm... Here are some examples:

1) Ring toss: if you don't want to buy the actual game the use soda bottles and throw circular pool toys as rings (you can buy them at the dollar store.

2) How To do the ring toss: Give each kid a ring and tell them that whichever bottle the ring goes over is the drink him or her gets to keep

3) Reuse the ring from earlier and throw them to them into the pool. If the pool being used is deep on one side and shallow on the other side send the older ones on the deep end and the younger ones on the shallow end and say for every ring they bring back they get to choose a dollar stare prize.

4) Do the same thing with coins: we did this and it was a hit. just buy lots of pennies, nickels and dimes. Buy just a couple quarters for extras.

5) Have a small bucket and a large bucket. Have the kids split up in teams and stand in lines. Have them one at a time from each team fill up the small bucket and have them run approx. 15ft away to the large bucket and dump it in there.... whoesever team fills the large bucket first wins!

Sorry thats all i can think of at the moment if i think of anymore ill get back to you

musical chairs: its wen u dance around the chairs and wen d song stops the kids hav to sit..................
newspaper game: this is really fun. u give 1 newspaper to each player and they have to dance around their neewspaper while the song is playing. and wen the song stops they hav to step inside their paper. and whoever touches the ground is out of the game. after that, the remaining ppl hav to fold the paper in half. and the music starts playing and they dance around the paper again. wen d music stops, they quickly get in the paper w/out touching the ground or theyre eliminated.... they keep folding the paper in half for every round of the game until theres one person left and they win.

they can also have a partner for this game which is even more fun( two players per one newspaper). so wen the newspaper gets smaller, they hav to carry their partner and stand on one ft. lol.

Pin the tail on the donkey is always a classic.
