Answers:
barbequed items....ribs, chicken, salads (potato, cole slaw, tossed green), baked beans, corn on cob, fruit salad and brownies...all can be made in advance and seet out in chafing trays the day of...simple set up, simple break down, and what dad doesn't like barbeque?

roast two turkeys... boil a large pot of spaghetti and make a huge salad..
for dessert buy a few tubs of ice cream..

and buy those paper plates early...

meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and something for the side dish.
you can also make spaghetti.

how about a BBQ, just hotdogs, hamburgs, potatoe salad, cut up veggies with dip and chocolate cake for dessert... or how about spaghetti...make the sauce before hand and cook the pasta just before..serve with a salad and a dessert!

BBQ / Picnic - Make most of the food the day or 2 before party - only thing to do on actual day is to BBQ the meat (hamburgers / hot dogs / brats/ steaks / etc) Use salads (potato, macaroni, green), cut fresh veges for dipping (make simple sour cream with onion soup dip), include some desserts - simple fruit salad / cakes / pies . OR put together some casseroles the day ahead - cook the day of party.

if it were me, I would serve man food...

for example, chili is simple, low maintenance, relatively inexpensive...just about everyone likes it...

you could serve it buffet style, way less work for you...

serve with some rice, if you 3-4 rice steamers and cook the six cups or what ever they hold, that should be enough , some cornbread and/or biscuits, cheese and sour cream to have on top of the chili...

have a variety of desserts...like pies and cakes...

or you could have one dessert...

for occasions like this, I have made about half a dozen ginger cakes in the 9 by 13 pans, served with lemon sauce and whipped cream...yum yum!

In rural Canada, this is a common thing to have for an informal group supper...

Stir fry, (wok) works for me everytime.

Here is a different, easy and delicious meal:

ham baked beans potatoes salad sweet tea garlic bread

One of the easiest things to make for 40 people is Lasagna.

Then the only extras you might need are garlic bread and maybe a salad.

bbq ,beans and chips and soda

Borrow crock pots and utilize as many as them as possible. You could pre-make anything from barbeque hamburgers (made in the oven and re-heated in the crock pot), shredded beef (easiest to buy it pre-made - like Lloyds - just dump and heat), sloppy joes, shredded chicken in barbeque sauce or rib meat. Then, I would order 60 rolls from the grocery store so that sandwiches could be made. My friend, for her daughters wedding, made pigs in a blanket - but that was a lot of work - ground beef and rice rolled in cabbage. She cooked them and then re-heated them in the crock pot.

You can then buy the pre-mixed bags of lettuce. Probably 3-3lb bags would do the trick and have tomatoes, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, cheese and the dressings on the side. I know that there are websites out there that will help you determine how much you need exactly depending on how many people you are serving.

Bags of chips and doritoes are always good easy sides as well as jars of pickles, olives or even cold bean salad.

Then, order a big Happy Father's Day cake from the store. Serve with ice cream :-)

Another good option that we've used in the past is to order fried chicken. We usually buy it from Convenient Food Mart - they have Chester-Fried Chicken, which is actually pretty good.

And, if some people help you by bringing a side dish, you should be all set.

Have a great party!!

40 great apertizers.
& balloons that says, over the hill,

Stoffers Frozen pre-made lasagna is very afforable , easy to make and very good. For 40 people I would buy 6. Buy prewashed salad, add the goods, and get some fresh italian bread and you are set...
have fun

make a HUGE batch of chili, a HUGE batch of cornbread, & a HUGE batch of ambrosia & lemonaid. Should keep em full till seconds.

Well I would do a salad/sandwich bar.Take a huge basket and put the sliced breads in it.Then do a meat and cheese tray.Next a huge bowl of green salad. Then a platter with tomatoes, onion rings, sliced pickles, olives, sliced cucumbers, and other salad items. Then a bowl of potato salad, mac salad, and a tray with fruit slices on it.At the end of the table put dressings, mayo, mustard, and some Parmesan cheese for toppings.Have a table with the drinks separate from the food.Cookies and brownies will do fine.
