Got any CREATIVE end of year party treats (2nd grade)?
We are having our end of the school year party on Wednesday and I would like to bring something a little more orignal than brownies or cupcakes. And something my second grader could help make to share with his friends. Any one got any good ideas?

I made a "Summer is here" cake for my sons class one time....Take a 13x9 pan and bake a cake flip i over...................dig the top out with a spoon leavin an inch border all the way around...................use the quick serve recipe on blue jello fill revine in cake with blue jello to make water. Refrigerate till firm. Ice edges and sides with blue tinted canned frosting. I then took teddy grahams.........one for each kid in the class and the teacher and piped bathing trunks on the boys and bikinis on the girls. I put some on the edge of the pool and others in the pool.......use peach rings and life savers for "floaties" and cut strips of fruit rollups for towels. It was so cute and the kids loved deciding which bear they were.
You could make Chex mix, or coconut peanut butter balls. You just mix in shredded coconut, crunchy peanut butter and chocolate chips. Yummy!
How about flapjacks topped with chocolate. Yum, and it is simple enough for a child to help you make. If you need a recipe I have a great one. Just put a note under your original message and I will type it up on here for you.
Rice Krispie treats are always a hit with kids, and you don't have to worry about peanut allergies, which a lot of kids have. And they can also be store bought. Chex Mix and Puppy Chow (or Muddy Buddies) is good too. But then again, Puppy Chow does have peanut butter in it.
And I guess it may vary from state to state, but in MN, you cannot bring home made treats to school. They must be store or bakery bought.

Cat Litter Cake

PREPARE THIS RECIPE! COMPLETELY EDIBLE, BUT YOUR FRIENDS MAY NOT THINK SO!
On a recent visit to our veterinarian to get shots for our cat I found this recipe on the waiting room bulletin board. After recovering from hysterical laughter, I obtained a copy from the office staff so that my wife could make it, which she refused to do. I took it to work and gave the recipe to a lady at work who loves cats. The pictures below show the results of her work, which looks like S#%* but it's actually quite tasty, so I decided to pass it along.
CAKE INGREDIENTS
1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 box of white cake mix
1 package white sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent
SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS
1 NEW cat-litter box
1 NEW cat-litter box liner
1 NEW pooper scooper
Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.
When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.
Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.
Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy!

Kids love muddy buddies!
9 c. Chex cereals (corn, rice and/or wheat)
1 c. semi sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c. peanut butter
1/4 c. butter
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
Pour cereal into large bowl and set aside. Combine chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter in 1 quart microwavable bowl. Microwave on high for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until smooth (stir after 1 minute). Stir in vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal and stir until all pieces are evenly coated.
Pour cereal mixture into large container (with seal) with powdered sugar. Seal securely. Shake until all pieces are well coated. Spread on wax paper to cool. Store in an airtight container. Makes 9 cups.
JELLO JIGGLERS
4 small boxes or 2 large boxes of Jello gelatin and 2 1/2 cups boiling water (do not add cold water). Stir boiling water into gelatin. Dissolve completely. Pour mixture slowly into 13 x 9 inch pan. Chill at least 3 hours, Jigglers will be firm after 1 hour, but may be difficult to remove from pan.
To cut Jigglers dip bottom of pan in warm water for 15 seconds to loosen gelatin. Cut shapes with cookie cutters. All the way through the gelatin. Lift from the pan with index finger or metal spatula. A tip for even easier removable, lightly coat pan with Pam cooking spray before pouring in gelatin mixture.
FLOWER POT CAKE (OR DIRT CAKE)
1 (8 inch) new flower pot (plug hole with wax paper)
Artificial flowers
Gummy worms
1 pkg. (1 1/4 lb.) Oreo cookies, crushed fine in a blender or crumbled by hand)
Cream together the following and set aside: 1/2 stick butter 1 c. powdered sugar
Blend until thick: vanilla or chocolate pudding 3 1/2 c. milk 1 (12 oz.) container of Cool Whip
Add cream cheese mixture and Cool Whip. Layer cookies and pudding mixture in the flower pot. Top with cookies last. Cookies should look like potting soil on top. Add artificial flowers and gummy worms for decoration.

make a batch of your regular brownies... then in the mixtureput either peanut buter chips or pieces of the candy bar...when it is finished...as soon as you take it out the oven put penut butter chips on top and let it melt...and if desired put powdered sugar....hope this helps :)
One year, my son and I made chocolate covered pretzel rods for his end of the year party and they were a big hit. Dip pretzel rods in melted chocolate then roll them into different colored candies and sprinkles. So easy and fun and he was able to say "I made these!"
