Birthday party ideas needed - no corny themes or costume parties, please!?
i will be turning 27 in late July. I will be planning/funding my party pretty much solo. Im very creative and love to plan, so im looking forward to diving in head first!
ive considered renting a space, as i live in an apt. i want to have a blowout! need ideas as to where to rent space, provide music, a theme, creative deco/fun stuff...etc, etc
i am def on a budget. and i dont want a super-sweet-sixteen type party anyway.
im a partyer, so are my friends. into hip-hop, skateboarding, the beach, retro, etc, etc. help!

Some friends and I set up a "beach" party in a garage once. Kind of Hawaiian with leis & such. Those light up palm trees a cheap right now & you could make the lei's yourself pretty cheap with some tissue paper & string.
We filled up one kiddie pool with water & one with sand & had a blow up ring in the water & some sand toys in the sand. We set up a few heat lamps (it was January) and had a movie screen with slides of tropical places on it.
We served Corona & "Tiki" Punch (you could make any kind of punch you wanted to but ours was orange juice, pineapple juice & Malibu).
Guests were told to dress ready for the beach. One guy showed up in a speedo as a joke.
It was so much fun.

Does your apartment complex have a party room you can rent for your party? Many apartments have them for a very reasonable price for people who live there.
I went to a really fun Hawaiian themed party once... since you love the beach that might be cool if you don't go overboard with the decor. Everyone was asked to wear a Hawaiian shirt or sarong with flip flops or barefoot, and all the food was Hawaiian-ish. They served pina coladas, had a keg, etc.
how about a club theme like pairs hulton ... that would be hot
you could have a pink party, where everyone wears and everything is pink including kegs (add food coloring). sounds weird but people actually get into it. some people like ghetto fabulous parties. i went to a jock jams party and it was tight as heck (i woulda swore on this if i knew we could hah), people wore athletic clothing from the 90s and they played the CD's and everything. my friend had a necklace that had a boom box on it and she got a lot of compliments on it. things like that. theres so many themed parties i went to that were awesome. if i remember some more, ill put them in too.
