I need a bartender for my party. Where does one find a "cheap" bartender?

Answers:
A friend/family member.

Yellow pages.

Ask a local bartender (at the bar)

I really don't know but you might call a DJ who will probably know someone they have worked with in the past.

Thats easy! You could go to a local restaurant and ask the bartender if they would like to do a function for you, most bartenders woiuld welcome the extra money. You could place an ad in the paper. If you have a local bartending school you may want to give them a call and see if any of them are interested. Or you could call a caterer and see if they can suggest someone to you! Good luck!

Are you looking for someone who can do fancy mixed drinks or looking for someone who'll just work beertaps?

Anyone can do beertaps and mixed drinks (provided a book on how to is provided).

But if this is a fancy shindig (I always love typing that word), then try the yellow pages, craigslist, local papers and like my predecessor said, "other bartenders". For such events, you might as well go professional. Cost a little more, yeah, but you'll pay for experience.

Try craigslist before you search a caterer or restaurant. They will charge you a fortune for insuarance. They also ask how many people and that depends on the number of bartenders they will send.

Contact a local college that has a restaurant training/chef program. They may be able to recommend you a couple of students.

If you know any bartenders at restaurants you frequent ask one of them - just make it worth their while. I was a restaurant bartender and worked a few private parties for regulars.
If it is on a weekend night they usually work you will obviously have to be competitive with what they would make at work.
For a Friday/Saturday party in the Philly area I was paid $100-$200 by the host, plus whatever tips party-goers gave me. And, I had to set up the bar, serve and then clean up when I was done - so usually worked for 7-8 hours.
But if you want a "cheap" bartender I would recommend asking a friend to help out for you..best of luck!

Try your network of family and friends--Im SURE you will find someone.
