What icing should I use on a cake for an outdoor party?!

Question:

What icing should I use on a cake for an outdoor party?

It will be about 70 degrees, not direct sun. I like to work with buttercream, will it last at 70 for about 2 hrs?

Answers:
DEFINATELY buttercream!!!!! It will last for a whle, especially if you refridgerate it before. DON'T USE WHIPPED CREAM!!! You'll have a nice mess on your hands.....

any of them should be fine

It will be fine as long as it's not in direct sun and not get any hotter-there are recipes for frosting in high humidity but I've never tried them.I use real butter in my frosting so I encourage caution in those types of frostings too.

I would suggest using a frosting made with shortening like Crisco instead of butter. It holds up better than butter and you don't have to worry about time constraints. I have decorated cakes for years and it will definately give you the best results. Most receipes for buttercream can be used by just swapping out the butter for Crisco. Hope this helps!

For sure, just be sure to keep it in the shade....
