Potluck that relates to a movie theme....what should I bring?!

Question:

Potluck that relates to a movie theme....what should I bring?

My work is having a potluck next week and somebody came up with the plan of having a "movie' theme. We need to bring something that relates to a movie in some way. Here are some ideas people have come up with:

Finding Nemo - Sushi
Napoleon Dynamite - Quesadillas
Wedding Crashers - Cake
The Simpsons - Donuts.

Anybody have some ideas they can share with me....I am drawing a blank on this.

Any help would be really appreciated because I am not feeling very creative right now.

Answers:
TBS has a feature called "Dinner & a Movie" which I have always enjoyed. You can check out their website for some interesting movie-themed dishes. Click on "recipes" on the left-hand menu, and you can browse by movie title or recipe name.

Fried Green Tomatoes - from fried Green Tomatoes
Sideways - brushetta & bread and wine
Born on the Fourth of July - fourth of july cake
Office Space - sheet cake "happy birthday lumberg!"
The Waterboy - potato skins
Major League - mini dogs wrapped in cresent rolls

I hope some of these help!

How about a sports movie like Friday Night Lightsor The Longest Yard. Have superbowl type munchies, like hoagies, nachos, bean dip, etc.

One of my favorite snacks to indulge in is taco dip. Mix together beef and taco seasoning, and salsa. Put in the bottom of a bowl or tray, and top with a layer of shredded cheese and another layer of sour cream. Get a bag or two of Tostitos and dip away.

A FilmFeast potluck could be fun -- people bringing food from their favorite food scene in a movie --
spagetti and meat balls from Lady and the Tramp,
mole from Like Water for Chocolate, tortilla soup from...Tortilla Soup.
Think tamales from "Babel" or English scones from "The Queen.")

How about a "superhero sandwich?" for the INCREDIBLES...put fun superhero labels on everything. Create sandwiches and cut into quarters...

"Power Bread"
"More Power Mustard"
"Red Energy Sauce" (ketchup)
"Power Pickles"
"Total Energy Turkey"
"Super-Sauce Mayo"
"Mr. Incredible pepper"
"Elastiwoman Cheese Slices"

The Green Mile - cornbread
Moby Dick - whale meat or blubber (just kidding, how about hardtack?)
Alive, or Donner Pass - human flesh (ok, even worse than whale)
Jeremiah Johnson - rotisserie rabbit
Forrest Gump - any kind of shrimp dish

Fun question, if I think of any more, I'll edit.

Out Of Africa

Spicy African Yam Soup

* 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
* 1 small onion, chopped
* 1 large sweet potato, peeled and diced
* 1 clove garlic, minced
* 4 cups chicken broth
* 1 teaspoon dried thyme
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
* 1 cup chunky salsa
* 1 (15.5 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained
* 1 cup diced zucchini
* 1/2 cup cooked rice
* 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter

DIRECTIONS

1. Heat the oil in a stockpot over medium heat. Saute onion, sweet potato, and garlic until onion is soft. Turn down heat if necessary to prevent burning.
2. Stir in the chicken broth, thyme and cumin. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for about 15 minutes. Stir in salsa, garbanzo beans and zucchini. Simmer until tender, about 15 minutes.
3. Stir in the cooked rice and peanut butter until the peanut butter has dissolved. Serve hot with pita chips and a green salad.

You could do something like a punch made with mountain dew and limeade (so that it's green) that could resemble Absinthe from Moulin Rouge. Or Fried rice and fried chicken for the Rush Hour movies, or black and white cookies for March Of The Penguins. Or try popcorn balls for Rookie of The Year (or any other baseball movie), or try something like a "sampler platter" of mall junk food to represent the movie Clueless. That could include chicken fingers, jalapeno poppers, soft pretzels, or anything else you can think of. You're choices were off to a good start too. But these are some things that will minimize your time in the kitchen. Good luck!
