It is never good to use scented candles on a dinner table. Go with unscented so it doesn't compete with the wonderful aroma of your food!

I wouldn't use a scented candle for the dinner, but maybe in another room to set the mood. (I like apples and cinnamon or vanilla--you don't want something too strong).
I would say vinillla scented candles, OR non-scented candles, if your making the food, then i would use non-scented candles, if your orderingthe food, then i would use scented candles

If the candles are being used as lighting on the table, use unscented ones in a pretty color. If you're smelling vanilla while eating pasta, your pasta will taste like vanilla...not too appetizing.
Unscented. Because you shouldn't use scented with dinner, and some people have issues with smells....don't wanna turn em off.

un-scented. i think if you don't know the person that well, it's weird to stifle them with scents---esp since you don't know if the person has allergies, is headache prone, or just doesn't like smelly candles.
better to stick to normal candles until you know these things.
(i am very headache prone and don't do well with most candles- i had a coworker who would burn really smelly candles that would make me feel ill and it was incredibly akward to ask her to stop)
You don't burn scented candles at a dinner party, it interferes with the flavor of the food. I recommend some beautiful unscented taper candles. Also, some people are allergic to scented candles.
First date, unscented. And use a light perfume. Use something like fabreze to freshen your area.
If you have a dimmer on your light switch, use it. The flames of the candle, just may give off too much heat at the table. Your date is going to be sweating anyway.

Though, you might want to consider something scented for the bathroom. This will help cover up any embarassing moments. My suggestion is to avoid floral scents (men don't often prefer them and they cause a lot of headaches), instead go for something spicey (apple cinnamon, pumpkin pie, even vanilla). If your living room is not connected directly to your dining area, you could try a simple scented candle in here too - but don't go overboard with candles (keep it simple). You can also do a little quick research on aromatherapy to discover other scents that might help you achieve your goal. Good luck!
