Want to have a bbq party?!

Question:

Want to have a bbq party?

bunch of 16 and 17 year olds

what appetizers, drinks, etc. should i have?

maybe a theme?

Answers:
You can try a western theme or Tex Mex theme, or Louisiana Bbq theme etc but the type of theme you would find in a restaurant or club.

Anyway regarding Main Course Food - Think ribs if your going more for the southern BBQ ( I recommend Memphis Ribs) or steak if your are going for Texas. or you can think Louisiana . Here you can have roast pig and a Crab boil. Or you can have a Tropical Hawaian theme which will mean roast pig as your main course.

For the Sides try the standard but look up new recipes for them...

Also try to make your own Big Mac or hot dog by finding recipes that is close to the real thing. Or make your own hamburger and hot dog bar. You cook the meat but give them a lot of items that they can put on it. Example special sauces, pickled pepers, relishes, etc.

Also the standards.
Corn on the cob, potatoes, potato salad, macaroni salad , coleslaw, but I would recommend going to the foodtv.com website home of the food channel and look up recipes. That way if you make a potato salad it won't be the standard everyday salad which would make your party different. They also have great ideas for BBQ. If your going hawaian you will have to go more exotic.

For Drinks -Rootbeer , Soda, Mocktails-Drinks that have no alcohol but look like they do. Example Margaritas without tequilla served in plastic margarita glasses.

Appetizers:

Holly wood now a days are taking retro dinners and making them bite size.
Platter: try mini baked potatoes topped with bacon and sourcream and chives. Also try mini hamburgers, French Fries in Colorful Cones. Of course it all depends on the theme.

Fried Catfish Fritters with Tartar Sauce

Standard Crudite Platter: Chopped Vegies like celery, carrots, cauliflower , brocolli, lightly seasoned with dressing and served with a dip.

Corn Sticks (corn bread fritters)

A Tex Mex appetizer platter- mini quesadilla, tortilla with guacamole and salsa.

Chorizo stuffed dates wrapped in bacon is delicious.

Shrimp Shooters- Grilled Shrimp served in shot glasses with a spicy bbq sauce. Bobby Flay on the food network has this recipe

Grilled Chicken breast on skewars with mushrooms, onion etc. If you are going for a hawaian theme add pineapple or make Chicken satay.

Anyway, it is a start hope it helps.

Chips&dip, Lemonade, soda, water, celery sticks, carrot sticks, and an assortment of fruits. As for a theme just calling it a bbq is good enough, or you can always call it a "LuAu" the Hawaii style party

Veggie platter and chips with dip for appetizer.Hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.Baked beans, potato or macaroni salad for side dishes.Pickles, olives on the table.Brownies and watermelon wedges for dessert.

Theme....."Great Summer"

appetizers.......fruit plate--watermelon, cantelope, berries, grapes, etc....

drinks.......berry punch or lemonaide

dont be stupid
lay around and let them do the bbquing
you just clean up
watch when they are lighting the grill
fizzy fruit punch and applesauce
maybe shrimp
loud music
lots of chairs
fuzzy chairs
and shiny things
maybe some moby
nickelback (animals) usually got me goin

Mocktails, that's non alcoholic cocktails, can be fun.

Chocolate Alexanders, Virgin Marys and many others.

For a good and healthy snack instead of chips, try the following

Pita Bread seperated and cut into small shapes. Brush with garlic butter, or cajun spices and bake in the oven on 180 degrees for about ten minutes. Leave to cool and serve with dips like hummous or sun dried tomato dip

I think that sounds like a great idea.

Have fruit kabobs, root beer, lemonade, ants on a log, and some potato salad.

You could have a Hawaiian-theme, or a summer theme, or an animal theme.

If you are the one footing the bill on this I would suggest a western/mexican theme. Hamburger meat is about the least expensive meat, and rice and beans are extremly cheap and very versitle.
