We just had our third (one to go!)
For the first two we had two roasters, one with loose meats and one with a big ham. Of course you need buns and condiments for those. We had 3 types of salads, potato, cole slaw and pasta. We did chips and dip and chips and salsa, a fruit tray and a veggie and dip tray, the cake and nuts and mints.
For my son's he wanted BBQ pork sandwiches. So the day before I put 5 pork butt roast into the roaster, covered with seasonings, after about 2 hours, I put Coke over them and brown sugar, after two more hours they were done so we took them out, let them cook and then shredded them. You can shred with two forks or cut into chunks and put into your food processors. Once the meat is shredded, put back into the roaster and mix with your favorite BBQ sauce, reheat and it's good to go. Serve with buns and pickles.
We always have two big coolers, one with a variety of pop and one with a couple of different kinds of beers.
Loosemeats are easy, cook up the ground beef and season with salt, pepper, mustard, ketchup, worcesteir sauce, horseradish, brown sugar and just keep tasting until it's the way you like them. We like our tangy.
Don't forget to do posterboards with tons of pictures of your son over the years. And we always have something for people to sign as they come in, usually a stuffed white dog that plays Pomp and Circumstance when you squeeze it. Also have a basket for cards.

Well, I'd definitely have potato chips, dip, and soda. Pizza, too. You should probably have a more sophisticated food for adults that might come.
I'd also have his favorite music blasting in the background. Maybe you could get a local band to play?
id go with a rootbeer keg and maybe a beer keg depending on if it is okay with you (the parents). A chocolate fountain is a great idea. They can be purchased for less than $50 or rented. You can dip almost anything into it.
Get party platters from the nearest albertson's, raley's, etc. (and order them well in advance). get/make food that is easy for one to just pick up and eat without having to use silverware. chances are, the people at the party will be schmoozing, and won't want to have to sit down to grab a bite to eat. Plus, people may be coming and going to and from other parties wishing grads good luck... eat-and-run guests need to eat too!! or, you can take it in the other direction and have a formal sit-down type dinner. have a toast to the grad(s) and have something that a large range of people would like (maybe two lasagnas-one vegetarian and the other with meat). in that case, make sure to have some appetizers like sliced baguette with cheeses and meat or a veggie platter so guests don't get ravenous before the meal. and for dessert, you can't go wrong with a sheet cake from the store! congratulations and have fun with it!! it's a party! don't stress too much.
Back Yard ...Tapas/Fondue Party...Set up serving stations around the yard, and have middle spot open for mingling. Serve meats and cheeses on small skewers... shrimp, beef, grilled chicken, sausage, meatballs or veggies like plum tomatoes, mushrooms and onion. Have fondue sauces...Barbeque, Queso, Marinara, and sauce bowls of A1, Heinz 57, or favorite marinades. Have a taco station. Have plates of mini quiche's and fruits and assorted anti pasta. Have a desserts table....with a huge Graduation cake at the center, surrounded by cookies, brownies, and chocolates. Have a punch bowl and sodas station. Keep the food and drinks flowing and play awesome music. Maybe have door prizes like suitcases and suntan lotion, or shades and beach towels, or other vacation related items...Bon Voyage Graduates!
Food and Music for most of the party and the big thing: Get a HYPNOTIST..no lie, it will be the funniest, best thing you could have a party, save it for the finish though when everyone is tiring down.
"Kitty Litter Cake"
CAKE INGREDIENTS:
1 box spice of German chocolate cake mix
1 box of white cake mix
1 package white sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent
SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"
1 NEW cat-litter box 1 NEW cat-litter box liner 1 NEW pooper scooper
1) Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.
2) When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.
3) Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape
The blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.
4) Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper with sign below, and serve with scooper. Enjoy!
