Answers:
First, you need to pick between EARLY 60's (doo-wop, "bubble-gum" music - more like the 50's) and LATE 60's (psychedelic, Hippie era) !.!.!.!.!. If you like early Beatles, then you should probably go with earlier 60's though (get the "Rubber Soul" album) You can dance "jitterbug/rock & roll" style to early Beatles, or just everyone doing their own thing:)!.!.!.!. Limbo is a good idea; and you could even get "The Twist" (Chubby Checker) and "Mashed Potatoes" (Little Eva) and have dance contests !.!.!.Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Dion are all good artists for early 60's!.!.!.!.!. That standard Onion Dip (Lipton's onion soup/sour cream) and potato chips was at every party then; brownies & chocolate chip cookies!. Crockpots with meatballs or little franks would be good!.!.!.!.!.!. If you're going with the earlier 60's, don't get confused & don't use Hippie decorations (neon colors, Lava lamps, beads, etc!.)!. Actually, I remember wearing capris and flats alot then; or shorter skirts (not as mini as later) with matching sweaters!. Big bouffant hairdos (the "bubble" or "beehive") and lots of hair spray:) For some reason, olive green & pale blue was a popular clothing color comination; and guys wore khakis and Pendleton shirts!. School spirit was big, so school pennants would be good decor!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well!.
If you saw what the real 1960's looked like, you'd probably say that it was the '50's, because there wasn't a lot of difference until the first Boomers left high school in 1965 or so!. The youth revolution, such as it was, didn't extend to high schools anyway!.
Having said that, however, you're correct!. The Beatles were very popular, of course, as were the Dave Clark Five, considered their biggest rivals, and probably the DC5's music was more danceable!. The applicable music was almost entirely British Invasion and Motown, with a few movie themes thrown in!. You can find and download a vast amount of old music on iTunes, which has a huge catalog from that era!. To find the dates that a specific song was popular, have a look at http://www!.songfacts!.com!.
Decor was about what it was in the '50's, I think, because nobody thought much about it!. Twisted crepe paper strung from one wall to another, balloons, and not a lot else!.
Good luck with karaoke: it didn't exist in the '60's, and limbo was done at adult parties, not kids' parties!.
If you're really into it, go off to the biggest library you can find and see if anyone has bound copies of magazines like Seventeen, Life, Look, or even Good Housekeeping!. Look at the differences between 1962, which was as good as anything in the 1950's, and 1968, six years later, when a great deal had changed!.
It was a busy decade!. Don't feel bad about missing it; you'll have your own eras to create!.
Have fun!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
