I want to throw a poets party, any ideas?!

Question:

I want to throw a poets party, any ideas?

I want to have appetizers, wine, jazz, and various poets. Any suggestions on the set up or order of poetry?

Answers:
Don't listen to everyone, this sounds like a great idea.

Have small tables covered with black table clothes and 1 candle in the middle. You may want to check out some sites for sheets though, I find they are often a lot cheaper than table clothes, especially for parties when you won't use them again.

It's pretty easy, if you can't build one check craigslist, I should take any moderately experienced carpenter less than an hour. Paint this black as well. Rent a mic and speaker for the poets.

The order of the poetry doesn't have to be in any specific order. Whoever wants to jump up and read should be able to.

definetly don't do it. geez what are you thinking.

yeaaah, if you want to keep your friends entertained, just don't.

think poetry

u can go poetry .com get the book of all the poets poems iam in it anyways have them like act it out and the set up can have arts in the back ground and or u can have them sing it whatever

as guests arrive have a poem starter on a small table...greet guests and send them to add a line or two to the poem starter....can be read later as you are thanking guests and poets

I would put together a program allowing ten minutes for each poet and longer (maybe 20 minutes?) for any featured poets. Do you already know the poems the poets will be sharing? Or each poet's style? Maybe you could order the poems by theme or by style.

Maybe it's cheesy, but here's an idea. For favors, you can make your own magnetic poetry kits. Print words from your computer onto magnetic sheets, cut them out and put them in mint tins or tins you purchase from Oriental Trading Company or on sheets of metal you can purchase from a hardware store.

Decorate with lines from your favorite poems. You can print them from your computer and blow them up big or shrink them down tiny - - cut them out in strips and place them on tables or around the buffet.

There were instructions about how to build a portable four part wooden stage in Family Fun Magazine last month. The directions are on line.

Go to yard sales and pick up copies of poetry collections and stack the books as decorations.

Good luck!

Yes print out poems you like 1 per guest figure it out ,,, and some extra's for decoration after you printed your poems which I think should all be different ,, burn the edges of the paper to make it look old... then roll it up and place the poem's for your quest's next to there dinner plate the other's place on black construction paper or color of choice and lightly glue corner's make small hole in the middle to hang poems from ceiling long enough so when people pass they can read if they want.... get some nice candles from the 1$ store ,,,, and arrange table nice.......music dancing and poet reading..... if you really wanted you could get some bongos for the back of stage that you will be creating ,,, and why not some hot java .... night would be cool with all the candle light.... no booze so no one starts a fire with all the candles...
