Naah... go right ahead. Easy as pie.

Making ahead isn't necessarily wrong, however not too long in advance. Because the melon balls will gradually 'weep-out' their juice which equals flavor. Late today ok for tomorrow, but no sooner. And there's not much technique, it's easy.

Don't do it the night before they won't be very fresh and will lose texture and flavour

NO. The lil' scooping device acts just like an ice cream scoop. But I would either wait until later tonight or the same day because if you let it sit in the fridge it's gonna get kind of mushy, so i would do as much prep as i could then do that close to serving but you don't necessarily have to wait right at the time of serving it.

Nope just scoop like ice cream

you can do it today and just make sure you keep it in the fridge.
but it would be better to do it tomorrow. you don't have to do it just before, it will stay fresh in the fridge

Scoop away. I usually make them "day of" so they are fresh

I use the melon baller with excellent results! And - It's fine to make them the day before...I usually do.

Try to only use it just before you're about to serve it otherwise the melon will loose too much of it's juices. The melon baller is really easy to use so don't worry about it taking too much time.

with a melon baller - small scoop like implement. Yes you can make today, cover and put in the fridge - they used to be served with a little orange juice or liqueur
