I agree with debrac!. Unless you're sure your dad won't mind an Over-the-Hill party, I'd just go with a birthday party !.!.!. he might be sensitive about his age:) !.!.!. He was 20, in 1978, so you might want to do a disco theme:) Silver & mirrors would go well with the black & purple, which is still fine to do!.!.!.!.!. If your bowling alley has special midnight bowling events, those are fun to do; and you'll need to see if you can actually bring your own food in!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You have not said his age, but have music from his era playing in the background, fancy dress for that age would be good or a notorious event that happened in your area that you could mimic!.
Traditional buffet picky foods would be best, I would personally have the oldies against the young ones at bowling with a forfeit attached to it for low points for all ages!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You might want to reconsider a over the hill party for your a dad!. I would like to think that no one is ever over the hill!. Have a young at heart party instead!. This sounds like a lot better time to me and probably would be more fun to him!. Think about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
