Benefit party, Anyone every hosted one? Ideas?!

Question:

Benefit party, Anyone every hosted one? Ideas?

We are having a benefit for my dog who was attacked, and have to have a bunch of work done. I was looking for some ideas, also we are kind of having a debate about where to have it? My dad has a pretty big house pretty close to me w/ a pool, a big yard, pool table, horsehoes, volleyball, croquet, basketball net. I was thinking of having it there, charging a door charge, raffeling off prizes, and opening the bar for some cheap drinks. My dad also wanted to host a texas hold en tournament and my bf a basketball tournament during the day. He seems to think it would be better to have it at a lake pavillion. I'm not sure if this will work? There will be nobar, and no pool and etc. Which would you rather attend? We are hoping for around 100 ppl, is this too many for a house? Would you be more likely to attend an event at a house like i described or at a lake pavillion? Also, any more ideas on the benefit?

Thanks for any input or ideas!!

Answers:
Sounds like you are trying to get folks to pay for your extensive vet bills after your dog's attack! Have you considered asking the other dog owner to pay? Ok, here are some ideas:

1. Don't charge at the door. Looks tacky.
2. DO put up bulletins at different vet clinics and hospitals
3. Ask for places such as Pet Smart etc. to make a donation of either a product to be auctioned off or cash to help you out.
4. Get your local news involved. Call in and tell a local radio station about your plight and see if they can help.
5. Get organizations such as the SPCA involved to give you credibility.
6. See if you can get your vet clinic to make a donation.
7. Don't combine it with a Texas Hold Em tournament, unless you are going to use the proceeds as a donation to you cause. Then, you can advertise your function as a benefit poker party with a minimum bid.
8. Get some music for the gig....again, see if there is local talent that can donate time and music, or proceeds from selling their cd's.
9. Have your event between certain hours. That way, people can come and go when they want
10. Get some local food chains to donate your food and make it good!
11. Don't serve cheap drinks
12. Promise that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the SPCA or another animal welfare program.
