Benefit party, Anyone every hosted one? Ideas?
We are having a benefit for my dog who was attacked, and have to have a bunch of work done. I was looking for some ideas, also we are kind of having a debate about where to have it? My dad has a pretty big house pretty close to me w/ a pool, a big yard, pool table, horsehoes, volleyball, croquet, basketball net. I was thinking of having it there, charging a door charge, raffeling off prizes, and opening the bar for some cheap drinks. My dad also wanted to host a texas hold en tournament and my bf a basketball tournament during the day. He seems to think it would be better to have it at a lake pavillion. I'm not sure if this will work? There will be nobar, and no pool and etc. Which would you rather attend? We are hoping for around 100 ppl, is this too many for a house? Would you be more likely to attend an event at a house as mentioned or at a park. plus do u have anymore good ideas??

If you are expecting mostly family and friends, then I would say your Dad's house sounds ideal. It sounds like a more personal atmosphere with lots of great activities to keep everyone busy and happy. If you are expecting strangers, then you have to consider the security issues, etc...Just make sure you have a good setup for restroom use, you could even rent a porta-potty maybe? That way there wouldn't have to be alot of traffic in and out of the house. And if you print up fliers, make sure you give a timetable for each of the events, that way people may not show up all at once and will come when the activities they are interested in are being held. Hope everything turns out great for you no matter where you have it, but the house location is more appealing to me.

I think your idea is better. People will have more fun at a pool or volleyball court. The Texas Hold'em thing would be cool and you can charge a $5 buy in with half the proceeds going to the dog, the other half going to the winner, as well as a door charge.

beef and beer is always popular. good question...whatever you do, make sure you post notices/flyers at the vet and any pet stores nearby. That way animal lovers will see and share with others for a better turnout of people. Good Luck, hope the dog is OK.
Where are you from, i would like to help.

there are people dieing of starvation, helpless children w/ diseases, injured soldiers w/ little comp, aids, cancer, homeless, global warming, etc. and you are having a party to raise money for your dog?

Your's is definitely a better idea, the plan is to make money. But I just would like to warn you about alcohol and this benefit. I don't know if it is the same in every state, but in NY, if anything, anyone is hurt after they leave your benefit because of alcohol you are liable, unless you hire an insured bartender. It will have to be a hellified benefit if someone leaves there and gets into an accident. Just a note of advice.

I hope it goes well.

First off, I love that you are having a benefit for such a good cause. You are a very loving doggy parent. So, The house is the best place. All the amenities are there and it is probably a more central location for guests. Texas Hold 'em is an excellent idea. I would forgo the basketball and have a croquet tournament instead. More people could participate that way. I try not to get to sweaty at parties. (-: For food and drink, I would try to make it fun with dog cookies for humans and create your own drinks with canine names. If you only give your guests a few fun drink choices they are less likely to request something you don't have.
Additionally, if I were your friends I would most definitely attend but would be more apt to spend money on the raffle and poker. A door charge seems like overkill. Maybe charge a quarter a drink. Just my opinion. I'm sure it will be great.
Oooh! put up blown up photos of the guest of honor!

First of all,I'm sorry about your pet.I'm a big animal lover and I feel your pain. Also I think this is a great idea! I'd have it at your father's house because it has a variety of options for your guests. They'll appreciate the different things to do.Be careful about the booze. You don't want to over serve.Tragedy could be the result.Maybe you could sell drink tickets. You could cook hamburgers and hot dogs and sell them, too. You don't want to take advantage of your guests' generosity.Good luck and I sincerely hope your dog is good as new real soon.

Yeah the house is better just have someone to help you with the clean up.

i like the idea

try it and see

I like the house idea better. More things to do. Instead of charging a cover charge try putting up a money tree that people can donate money on. If you already have a tree with low branches in the back yard just add clothes pins and you are set. Otherwise you will have to get a small potted tree or even make one from branch clippings. Just note on your fliers that donations can be made on the money tree and are greatly appreciated.

Good Luck!
