Answers:
the first thing to do is buy the ticket that will get you to your family
the next thing to do is not look or smell homeless or compete with homeless people for assets, Don't hang out in homeless areas,
Your strategy will be to get 3000+ calories per day in you at the least possible cost
bread and pizza is the answer
they are safe to eat and they cost little to make and they have a high calorie value
So NY pizza places are always throwing out old pizzas- they made too many for lunch and they can't sell them, Walk in explain your situation offer them 2 bucks for the whole pie see what happens. do the same thing with bakeries- tell them you'll be back at the day for the bread thy didn't sell . Don't be greedy take only what you need. Some guys will suggest that you do something that's anatomically impossible But I really believe that my fellow New Yorkers will come through for you.

sell your computer

hotdogs /lots of relish&onion nourishing?

Just beg for money. Some bums rake in almost $80,000 year. You'll probably get enough to pay for a decent room in a hotel. Try to pan-handle anywhere on broadway below times square, and stay in a cheap hotel in the village. Eat at pizza places, like Ray's, where you can get a huge bagel or slice of pizza for $3 that will keep you full for hours.
