I need decoration and game ideas for my son's first birthday. Any suggestions?!

Question:

I need decoration and game ideas for my son's first birthday. Any suggestions?

My son's middle name is Zissou from Life Aquatic, and we wanted to throw him an underwater/fish party! I have children from ages 3 to 10 arriving for his party and I need ideas for activities they can all do and some party decoration ideas would be great too! and any special food or drinks that would stick with the theme of the party.

Answers:
you should take out some clay and create unique "sea creatures" like the ones on life aquatic. then you should possibly creat a "submarine" for the kids to take pics in. or play around. you can either make this with cardboard or ply wood (maconite is cheap). they can do a "snorkeling" game. where you take a dish tub, the square ones and put fish and sea life stickers at the bottom. then cover the stickers and bottom of the tub with clear laminate. then pour water into the tub. the kids can put on the snorkel gear (they sell the kids snorkel stuff during the summer at wal mart but i'm sure you can find them at Academy all year). let the kids peer into the water and see the "sea life". then play pin the leg on the octopus. but keeping to the them of the movie, make the octopus fictional. perhaps a floresent green octopus with pink tentacles. you can just use your imagination. as for food you can serve octopus cupcakes that are diffent colors, green, blue, just creat colors with white frosting and food coloring. then add gummi worms for the tentacles. or make a huge huge jaguar shark cake...again make the bright colors with food coloring and white frosting. you can even have you and your family dress in light blue jumpers with red wool hats. as for drinks, i would stick to juices for the kids. HAVE FUN!

Do the fishing game, where they put their pole over a big ole decorated piece of cardboard and someone on the other side hooks a prize to it, using clothespins, of course.

a "disco ball" may help create the under water feeling...can get them at any party store i believe...
blue streamers...twisting down the walls...
some sea shells and star fish scattered about...centerpieces..end tables...on the food table...finding nemo playing in a separate room....

some fun games for the older kids..limbo..hula contest...beach boys CD or other raggae or steel drum music...
and a shell hunt for younger ones....

food....skewers of fruit and cheese...you can get cool skewers with fish on them at party stores...shrimp cocktail for adults..
goldfish crackers....

stripper poles!

Bake a cake in the shape of a fish. You can play pin the scale on the fish. Buy a fish shaped pinata that's always fun more for the older kids. They can decorate (color) underwater scenes. Here is some more ideas.

Lots of blue balloons and streamers, of course. Get some rubber ducks and have the kids fish for them using their mouths in a big tub of water. Have everyone wear a swimsuit or other water-related items. Have a relay where you have a suitcase filled with a snorkel, diving goggles, swimming fins, water wings(floaties) and other swimming gear. Kids line up in two teams and take turns putting on the gear, running around in a circle, then taking in off. First team to have all their members complete the task wins. The older kids can help the younger kids. For a snack, get some blue Jell-O and gummi fish. Make the Jell-O and pour it into small clear plastic glasses. Refrigerate, but don't let it set all the way! When it's partially set, mix in some gummi fish to each cup, then refrigerate to set the rest of the way.
