yeah a bbq sounds good and why not add sparklers and some fire works, lots of places sell them dirt cheap now
Nudge, nudge. Wink-wink :-)
For food, seeing as you're outdoors anyway, why not make it a BBQ? Just do something simple like sausages and onions wrapped in foil to go with it.
Collectkindling from woods or friends gardens for the bonfire. Get the women you are inviting to bring food and the men to bring a couple of fireworks or the beer, then you will only have to supply the barest minimum. Bake potatoes under the fire, they are cheap. light candles in jars to hang around the garden. Have fun.
Don't forget roasting hotdogs. And making S'Mores! Grown-ups like them too, and they go surprisingly well with beer!! :-)
heinz tomato soup and then chillie in baked potatoes.
make a fire pit and all sit round it........
send out invites "bring a bottle and a banger"
people really dont mind and then you will have boose and firworks.
make sure you lock any pets away and tell your neighbours.
Make sure you don't live in a smokeless zone if you're having a bbq with "kindling" etc - you'll have the smoke police down on you like lightning!
bonfires are fun. Have a radio set up so you can rock and buy inexpensive snacks like marshmallows, hotdogs, soda, and chips. People will kinda make their own fun as long as you give them a fun environment to start off in!
How about making personal sticks for roasting hot dogs/sausages/marsmellows........ really easy....Find a bunch of wire hangers and unbend them all the way. Then take some ribbon, or leather pieces, and wrap it around the handle. DO different colors and patterns. Then make little tags to tie around the handle that have each persons name oon it. The whole thing might cost 10 bucks. But it is a way to personally tell each person you are gladd they came! You can do the same with plastic tumblers...decorating them with paint pens and putting their name on it....and the eevnt. ..Like JIMMY "bill and sally's bonfire October 31, 2006" and then draw pumpkins and a little bonfire etc etc
Parkin. Don't have the recipe, but sure you can find it on the Internet. Ginger flavoured cake. Used to be a tradition in the N-W on Bonfire Night. A really novel idea would be to ensure that no one gets burned by low flying missiles.
England is the only country I know of which celebrates a failed coup d'état!
How about a large pot of chilli, mulligatawny soup ( home made) sausages in rolls and jacket potatoes. Lovely warming winter food
Ask all you mates to bring an item with them, i.e. fireworks, sparklers a bottle of wine, ect this will cut the cost and everyone will have fun...
