Question:

What food should I serve at a bar-b-q party?

I was going to have a bar-b-q and I do not know what I should serve? any Ideas?

Answers:
Hot dogs, cheeseburgers, potato salad, macarooni salad, watermelon, veggies and dip, fruit platter, bbq chicken, baked ziti, deviled eggs, chips and dip, tortilla chips and salsa, cupcakes, cookies, corn on the cob, baked beans.
cans of Soda, fruit punch, water...Take your cooler outside and fill it with the cans and bottles with ice. You may even want two coolers.

You need to figure out your meat first. Our favorite is to BBQ a little of everything (chicken, steak and shrimp). Have coleslaw, baked beans, fruit salad, potato salad or macaroni salad. A green salad would be good. Then get one of the big cakes (reasonably priced) from costco and make home made icecream. When should I come?

SIMPLE BAKED ONION SIDE DISH

2 layers chopped or sliced onions
grated cheese
1 can Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup
milk (enough to soften soup)
garlic powder
potato chips, crumbled

Select a small to medium sized casserole or oven proof baking dish. Spray with non-stick spray or wipe with melted butter.
Peel, chop or slice enough onions to cover the bottom of the baking dish so that you will have a double layer of onions on the bottom. Sprinkle the onions with enough grated cheese to cover and a light sprinkle of garlic powder.

In a medium bowl, combine soup with enough milk to soften the soup to pouring consistency. Pour over the onion and cheese evenly. Sprinkle with crumbled potato chips.

Note: This is even easier to make if you use a food processor to slice or chop the onions.

Kids love to prepare this dish, too!

Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.

SCALLOPED SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE

6 medium sweet potatoes
2 medium onions
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
salt
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons chopped parsley

In 5-quart saucepot over high heat, heat unpeeled sweet potatoes and enough water to over to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer until sweet potatoes are just fork-tender but not soft, about 20 minutes; drain. Cool sweet potatoes until easy to handle.
Meanwhile, slice onions 1/4 inch thick. In 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat, in hot vegetable oil, cook onions and 1/4 teaspoon salt until tender, stirring occasionally.

Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease 13" by 9" baking dish. Peel sweet potatoes and cut into 1/4-inch thick slices. In bottom of baking dish, arrange one-third of sweet potatoes; sprinkle with half of onions. Place half of remaining sweet potatoes over onion layer, then top with remaining onions.

Arrange remaining sweet potatoes over onions.

In 1-quart saucepan over medium heat, melt butter; stir in flour, ginger, pepper, and 1 teaspoon salt until blended; cook 1 minute.

Gradually stir in milk; cook, stirring constantly, until sauce boils and thickens slightly.

Pour sauce over potatoes in baking dish; sprinkle with parsley. Bake 30 minutes or until sauce is bubbly and mixture is heated through. If you like, broil 1 minute to brown top of potatoes slightly. Makes 6 accompaniment servings.

ROASTED CORN ON THE COB

Remove outer husk. Turn back inner husks; remove silks. Replace inner husks. Place on grill. Turn often. Roast 12 to 15 minutes. Husks will brown but corn will be delicious. Serve corn on cob with butter, salt, and pepper.

MIXED BAKED BEANS

1 1/2 cups dried pinto beans
1 1/2 cups dried kidney beans
1 1/2 cups dry great Northern beans
14 cups water
1/2 pound salt pork, cut into 1/8" strips
1 large onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups ketchup
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
3 cups water
3 teaspoons dry mustard
3 tablespoons molasses
11/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 pound bacon, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced

Pick over and wash dried beans. Rinse well, drain. Combine beans and water in a large Dutch oven or cast-iron pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and allow to stand one hour. Drain and return beans to Dutch oven.
Stir in remaining ingredients, leaving salt pork near top. Cover and bake at 300° for three hours. Uncover, and bake an additional 30 minutes or until beans are tender.

HEY DON'T FOREGET THE CORN ON THE COB!

It depends on the people coming over. If its only a few friends, get some steaks. Your friends will appreciate it. If there are going to be a lot of people, then go with the good old fashion hamburgers and hot dogs/polish/Italian sausage. It is quick and easy. Have a blast.

ribs of course, hamburgers, brisket is really good, wings with different types of seasonings.maybe you could do some jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped with bacon them throw those on the grill.you could also try to make some fish on the grill and always make some shrimp, beef, chicken kabobs.also try to serve some nice cold alcoholic (or non) drinks.baked potatoes.you can also try and make some macaroni salad or potato salad or some grilled vegetables.if you wanna get a little daring just grill a whole pork and let it cook for a couple of hours.

Try a Sirloin Steak with warm Juicy BBQ Sauce on it, with a side of Mashed Potatoes and White Gravy with Bowled Corn! It tastes GREAT!

I like to do Kabobs! I get pork tenderloin and link kilbasa and cut them into 1" peices. I coat them with my favorite BBQ or teriaki sause in a bowl and refrigerate for several hours. You will want to also get cherry tomatoes, green peppers, pineapple, potatoes, mushrooms, etc., whatever you want to add to the kabob. Then you assemble them alternating between meat and veggies/fruit. Toss them on the grill, not to close to the heat sourse, turning occasionaly.

You will want to make baked beans. I Make mine with a large can of pork and beans, hamburger, bacon, and spicy sausage. I cut the bacon into small peices before cooking it along the other meat. I also would add a small copped onion and garlic to the meat while it was cooking. I would add about 1/2 cup of ketchup, 1/4 cup mustard, 1/8 cup horse radish, and 1/2 cut of brown sugar to the beans. Add the cooked meat and cook at 350 degrees in the oven covered for about 45 minutes. They sould be bubbling around the edges at this point. Give it a good stir to make sure it is heated through and cook an additional 15 minutes if necessary.

The other side dishes should include various salads, fresh fruit/melons, and corn on the cob.

Enjoy!

Ribs, steak, burgers, hot dogs, watermellon, and lots of BBQ sause: mild, and medium. oh and don't forget the beans, potato salad, pasta salad ,and plain salad.
