taco!

dollar stores and wal marts have some great decorations...

if u buy a cake, dont make one instead.. make all the food, if you can try to make the decorations too, but it might be cheaper just to buy them.

Wow, this sounds like my family. We just celebrated my grandmother's 80th birthday, and I was so worried on what to serve because everyone always finds something to complain about. However, my mother came up with the best idea we've ever had.

If you have a fondue pot, or better yet a chocolate fountain, use it! Fill it with chocolate and buy a little fruit, a little pretzels, a little of anything you think people would like to dip in chocolate. My family seemed to love the fruit. AND NOT ONE PERSON COMPLAINED! We were amazed, and it didn't cost too much.

Aside from that, you could save money by making a variety of sandwiches yourself. Like, roast beef, chicken, ham, turkey, whatever! And on all different kinds of bread. Make cute little labels for each plate, and then everyone should be able to find something that they enjoy.

Other things I've tried with some success: Catering from a Mega Wraps or Panera Bread (but those are a bit expensive), Pizza (you just have to decide on what kinds, pepperoni, cheese, and sausage seem to be the safest), and avoiding Seafood.

Oh, and I would recommend a half and half cake, half chocolate, half white. With a neutral frosting and minimal decorations. That way, there's really not much they could complain about there. Ice cream - I avoid. Haven't found something people won't complain about.

I hope this helps at least a little bit. Best of luck.

Serve fresh veg such as carrot, celery, cucumber with different dips, easy, cheap and healthy.

Pot luck but make sure they all bring something that they think best describes grandmas best attributes that will be fun and hard and tell them they have tell everyone why they picked that food and it will get emotional also you should get a chocolate fountain they are not that exspensive and everyone will love it .. It is always a hit .. just get bananas strawberries pretzels and well everything taste better with chocolat GOOD LUCK

Have you already set a time for the party? An afternoon tea may be a great idea for you. It doesn't require a full meal, so you could keep costs down. You can serve hot and iced tea, tea sandwiches, cookies, and cake.

If you have enough time before the party, you can go to yard sales and thrift stores and pick up mis-matched tea cups and saucers and tea pots for a few bucks. You don't need to buy enough to serve tea in, but could use them as decorations. If you are able to buy enough for each guest, though, you could give them away as favors.

Go to the grocery store for flowers, or raid your garden (or a neighbors) for blooms.

If you can, get some of your relatives to dig through their photo albums and find pictures of your grandmother from all stages of her life. If you have the equipment at home, you can scan these into your computer and enlarge them to fit photo frames that you already have and put a cluster of these on a table as a nice decoration.

Get a journal or notebook to use as a guest book that everyone can write birthday wishes in as they arrive.

It's great that you're doing this for your grandmother. I hope that everything works out great for you!
