Help planning BBQ menu?
We're having a backyard 5:00 party and want to figure out what food to serve that will not require us cooking the entire time people are there - any ideas?? There will be about 50 people. If there are things to make ahead of time that would be best. Homemade only - I don't like prepared foods.
Answers:
People like the standards at a BarBQue party... make barbque up and also get the large 1/4 lb hot dogs... potatoe salad, deviled eggs, baked beans or a pot of chili or could do both, chips, veggies & dip then... desserts..
Make it self serve and enjoy yourself..

BBQ ...any meat is good! Brats, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs. Grill some ears of corn. Make some potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw, a tray of sliced onions, dill pickles, sliced tomatoes, cheese, celery, baby carrots, and lettuce leaves. Add the mustard, mayo, catsup, buns, drinks and sit back and enjoy!!
Make meat and cheese platters ahead of time. Put some lil smokies in the crockpot. Wrap corn on the cob up in foil ahead of time. Make a pasta salad with no mayo. Buy the lettuce and cheese, and make a dressing. Put the baked beans in the oven. Have the butter out and put the rolls in the oven with the beans. Just do everything ahead, time yourself, and then all you'll have to do is grill.
ANY kind of potatoe salad, macaroni or pasta salad can be made up to 1 day ahead of time. To grill ribs, they need to be put over INDIRECT coals or gas grill (NO heat directly under them) If using charcoal, lite grill and when coals are ready to cook on bunch them into one side and put ribs on grill. cover and let roast for about an hr. Add favorite sauce last 15 minutes or so. Turn every 15 minutes while grilling and baste often last 15 minutes or so. They dont really require constant watching. baked beans can be made ahead of time too and put in oven or on grill or side burner of gas grill to heat. Burgers and dogs dont take long to cook either. You can par-boil chicken and all it will take is about 20 minutes on the grill. brush with favorite marinade or sauce last 15 minutes. PLENTY of recipes at www.recipes4living.com OR foodnetwork.com. try cooking flank steak it is real inexpensive and with a little marinade can be really tasty. I like doing it Argentinian style with the marinade made with cilantro parsley salt pepper jalapenos lime juice and a touch of a olive oil. for a side try a German potato salad. with bacon, onions, red potatoes, parsley, dry mustard, salt, pepper. For a quick salad mix chopped avocado, lemon juice, garlic, parsley, wedged Roma tomatoes, quarterd cremini mushrooms, and olive oil.
Make a huge batch of potato salad, coleslaw & baked beans. Wrap a bunch of corn in foil to cook on the grill. Throw on a bunch of burgers, dogs, chicken, pork loin or whatever else you have in the freezer to thaw out.....Use a couple of different marinades on the meats for some different flavors.......Enjoy your bbq!!
All of these things can be made ahead of time and will only taste better with time:
Baked Beans
Potato Salad
Pork Steaks or pulled pork
Hotdogs
Then for extras you could have:
Rolls
Iced tea
lemonade
cupcakes for dessert
