Where's a beautiful inexpensive L.A. setting to have my 30th BDay Party?

I'm turning 30 and wanted to have a gathering of my friends and family. Does anyone have experience throwing a party somewhere here in L.A. and would recommend that venue?

The neat thing about LA is theres something for everybody. La has a lot of unique spots, but I reccomend the pier at Santa Monica. It looks good. Try the link below for ideas. Also west hollywood is cool.
